Title: AVI 21-23
Post by: el mojado on August 14, 2015, 08:27:58 PM
So I will be at AVI for this event. First time but not first SCJB event. I heard from someone who was there last year that there was a lot of drama. Maybe even a fight. What gives? Is this true? What happened last year? What can I expect? Believe me, I am no square. I like to party like anyone. That guy said he wouldn't go again. I went to Big Bend last season and had a great time. I hope its fun this time too...

Ok!! I can speak from experience I was at the avi for the Mother's Day event and let me tell you """ for me being a total stranger I made more friends that weekend than I could ever imagine it was freakin AWESOME!!! Darrell , Brian Hallet Dave " and Dennis not to forget Big Tommy "" and other good people. I heard nothing about a fight what so ever  If you have any questions about how great this SCJB family is ??? Watch the ramp at the end of the day , check out how everybody is helping each other load there  boats. That should tell you how tight this community is . Lastly, thanks to Brad he was out there at 7am setting up the SCJB canopies so people could hang out" and have a good time "  Thanks again Brad " it's sucks I gotta miss this one but I'm shooting to make the last trip of the season Big Bend"  you all have a great time and watch out for each other Be Safe!!! Having a fight break out at 2 a.m. in a bar is not really that unexpected is it?        :screwy:

Boaters aren't necessarily "angels" at 2 a.m. in a bar at the river.   Still I would hope that if some or SCJB was involved, that there would have been enough sensible peeps around to defuse the situation.   Don't make me come down there and crack heads next weekend.   >:D    I haven't been to the river in a long time and I'm not real happy about it.  Someone might really get hurt.  j/k

I don't know where you heard this from but this has to stop. No one was involved in any 'brawl'. I'm not even aware of any physical fights that have happened at any SCJB events.

I have heard so much bullshit and lies in the past 4 weeks about my events its unreal. I've heard we are all druggies, we are all douchebags that just get drunk and fight, I've heard we are "worse than the kids in the havasu channel on spring break".

ANY ONE OF YOU can't attest to how family friendly, drama free AND fun these events are. Yes, there's times when people get a little drunk and carried away, but its dealt with in a civil manner. No 2am bar brawls - EVER.

Yes, the events are getting bigger, but its up to ourselves to keep it under control and police ourselves and our neighbors. Also, if you guys hear of anyone else spreading these bullshit untrue rumors, politely correct them please. We aren't about drama, fights, drugs, etc at all and it will NOT be tolerated.

This is great to hear. Since I plan on bringing the family and it being my first meet was kind of nervous about the size with my parents on their boat.  They don't do to well in big crowds

Well said! We've only been to a hand full of events, but never once seen or heard of a fight or bar brawl. It's always been nothing but a good time. Yeah, there is drinking involved, but everyone seems to control themselves and not get out of hand.
Up until these last few posts, which I don't believe, I've heard nothing but good from "outsiders" in reference to the whole group.

I will back Brad up on this 100%.  One of the biggest reasons people love the SCJB events, and come to them repeatedly, is because there is absolutely no riff-raff.
I am being completely honest when I say that EVERYONE GETS ALONG!  And that's a hard thing to believe with a group as big as SCJB has gotten.... But it's true.
My husband and I have been attending for 3 years now, and have never missed a meet, and we have met some of our very best friends through SCJB.... People we would not have met otherwise, for we all live in different states.
Everyone watches out for each other, kids are always more than welcome, everyone is always willing to offer a hand when needed or even when not needed, lots of laughs are always had, the best of times continue to be documented in the books, and I promise you, you will meet great people and make life lasting friendships... Friendships that continue to grow outside of the SCJB community.
Please don't believe, nor spread these rumors... For it will only be your loss.... Your loss of great times, great people, great fun, and lots of great memories!  Brad you know how much we appreciate all you do my friend.... That's why we love you!
I hope to see y'all out there.... And if haven't met you yet, my name is Heather, and the hubs is Sean (all fired up on the boards).... See ya soon!!!

. I have been to a lot of SoCal events. People  from all walks of life or  at these events. I've never seen any fights not even a argument at the SoCal event. Most these people will become your new friends if given half a chance. This group keeps growing by leaps and bounds so if you want Brad our anyone else to speak for all that will show up its not going to happen. But as a group we police ourselves and stop any problems before they happen to the best of our abilities. I have been involved in a lot of different groups and never have I seen any even close to a big family as SCJB.  Does someone end up drinking to much yep but we just help them find a place to take a break. This is the river people go to have a good time and that what SoCal Jet boats is about. I would say the folks that have bad things to say about the events might be the ones we don't need around. Unfortunately there will always be people that run there mouth to bad we have to hear them. Brad keep up the good work and don't take it to heart.

×2 100% key phrase there is "police ourselves" with alcohol there is always a chance of a bad situation but a kind friend can defuse that quicker than a stranger. That's why these events are so enjoyable is that I feel we have an unspoken friendship between all the members, for something bad to happen they would have to catch all of us sleeping. I've only been to a fiew of these events but they are always safe and enjoyable, Keep up the good work Brad. See you this weekend. 👍👍

How busy will it be saturday morning? How early should I be launching to secure a spot? Ehat are the unspoken rules regarding saving my spot on the beach while I take my boat for a 100 MPH run?

FYI... I was at AVI  about 3 weeks ago. There is a security check at the gate. Your name will be on a hotel guest list to launch free. Otherwise, I believe they are charging $20. And they also mentioned that the beach is for hotel guests only. But maybe Brad has it worked out with management.... any insight on this?

I will be up at 7 setting a anchor on the beach. I think it's gonna be extremely busy by 9 with no room on the beach by 11. As far as 100 mph runs better have something big that can take a roller. Have a feeling it's gonna be pretty clapped out all weekend. All I can say is be safe and watch the water.

1. Launch sucks. Luckily we have amazing group of people grabbing boats as they come in.
2. There are big boats running up and down so there isn't any big hazards
3. That's what I'm bringing so I'm sure you are good

1. Launch sucks. Luckily we have amazing group of people grabbing boats as they come in.
2. There are big boats running up and down so there isn't any big hazards
3. That's what I'm bringing so I'm sure you are good

Thanks Dennis, You said you are launching around 7am?

couple questions,

1. Whats the launch at AVI like?
2. Water level/hazards in the water? My pops has an IO and might be with us so asking for him
3. Anchor(s) i have a small box anchor and a slide anchor. Im assuming more than enough?

thanks!

1: launch ramp is tricky when loading the boat but as stated during the events, there are always people helping. last month the line to pull the boat out was about an hour, that entire time PWCs think it's fun to come within feet of you while your idling out front waiting.
2: All depends if the dam is open, water level can be VERY low in the morning (so low, your trailer tires go past the ramp), then steady rise all day.
3: box anchor and slide anchor will do you well!

Hahaha!!! It always seems good the night before. That one day we hit the beach early, then again we also saw the helicopter stop that boat lol. Always good times

Thank you all for the info... This brings up a good point that now I have another question

I dont drive my boat onto the trailer. Never have. Im still new to jets adn the way they handle in the water. Im getting much better but still not very comfortable driving it on or into the back of the GF's Tahoe.

Is it possible/doable to swim it on the trailer?

If not, How far up is another ramp that is?

100% possible! Especially if you have someone to catch the boat next to the trailer, then push it over and on. That ramp is where I learned to launch and trailer boats

Right on, The Bahner i drive on all the time, its simple. point and throttle. But the Rogers (Weiman) is more difficult for me. Plus my damn trailer has a giant bar going straight up for when it used to be a double decker trailer. Dont need to nail that thing either

At least you have a target to aim for lmao!!!!!
The ramp is tricky but makes for good practice. I have faith in you Steve! You'll be powering onto the trailer by the end of the weekend!

If you need help loading your boat there is usually a group of people down at the ramp helping everyone.

What Jennifer said is true....everyone always helps one another at the end the day to get the boats out. I'll admit I was one of those chicks going side ways down the ramp (still learning to back a trailer up) in May at the Avi. Luckily I had someone come help me :)
