Title: East Coast Jet Boaters UNITE!!!
Post by: River Roy on March 31, 2010, 06:28:06 AM
All the West Coast boaters seem to get together every w/e and I have not seen anything about East Coast Get togethers. I know it's mostly a West Coast group and all but there are a few of us on this side of the Country SO. I have a summer Cottage right on the Allegheny River and I believe it would be a great place to meet.

My place is in the First Natural pool, 3 miles up river from the end of the navigational (Keeps a safe boating depth, I think it 12 feet or deeper) bottom part of the river, A shallow stretch a couple hundred feet separates me from the deep waters that lead to Pittsburgh that jet boats and other smaller boats, I/O's can even make it most the time if you know the channel, can travel through with n/p. So If you leave my place and go down river you can be in Pittsburgh in a day, The "Burgh" is actually very boater friendly, docks both public and private that lead to all the stadiums, subway system that gets us anywhere in the burgh. 5 star hotels or sleep on the boat/tent w/e.

Pittsburgh is a day trip one way, It works out to about 70 some miles but there are 8 locks that we have to go threw, It's fun with a few boats, gets boring and kinda tough if your doing it solo.

You skinny water lovers, I'm one also but don't have the funds for a Outlaw Eagle YET. This is a dream place, Go up river from my place leads to multiple rivers that lead to several State Parks and the Allegheny National Forest. Over a Hundred miles of beautiful river running and great fishing.

I'll add more info and pic's and this is a open idea, Who's interested in what when? I have many beds and even more tenting/camping.

There is a public boat launch 7 miles down river and I also have my own but it's tight, you need 4 wheel drive and only works well in the summer when water is low and ground is dry, I have docks.

Who's interested....   Roy

I remember you typing something about East Liverpool (I use to B.A.S.E jump off there old smoke stack) on the Ohio, I live close to the Ohio,Pa, West Virginia state lines not far from there, And I have friends who have camps on the side of the river and on the bottom of a large track of dune buggy ,4x4 trails Called "Wellsville" Ohio, I always wanted to tow to there and boat up the Ohio to Pittsburgh, spend a night there maybe, and then cruise the rest of the way back up the "Al" to my Place, We could work out something with the trucks/ trailers, Actually not hat far a drive when driving and cutting across country.
Just throwing out some idea's...    Roy

Oh yeah those pic's are familiar I know exactly where that's at but that event I did not know about, Wish I did seems way cool.

Thanks for all the compliments everyone.

I found out over the year's that most boat people are good people and fun to spend time with so any of you people want to come have some fun on the water, Give me a shout.  Roy

Opened up the Cottage this w/e. Turned the water on and NO LEAKS!!! Neighbor forgot to add anti-freeze to his crapper so it froze/broke and he flooded his bathroom. If you live in a NO freeze Area you have no Idea how much work it is to deal with winter below freezing temps. So many cheap boats around here needing engines cause most people don't know how to properly winterize there first boats and crack there blocks/exhaust logs. I totally redid my cottage water system and added on over the years so even tho it has a full bathroom compete with shower on the first floor and a 1/2 bath on the second floor with a out door shower and a full kitchen (working on the full bar) I can winterize the whole place in less then 20 minutes (Most time waiting on hot water tank to drain) and turn it on in the spring in less then 10 with NO LEAKS!!,, I'm pretty happy about that.. :D  :)

The river was/is about 6 feet above summers normal low with lots of debris and coffee colored so we only saw 2 boats all w/e. One was a Baja i/o about a 22 footer (sounded like a BB) that was in water that was about 3 foot deep with rocks about 4 miles above the end of Navigational part of the river and they where idling down river so I'm guessing he already realized he should not be where he was with what he had,  :). I have watched people do this before.

The other Boat was great to hear coming down the river and see it was our great friends Deb And Kip in there Rogue, They stopped and asked if we wanted to go out boating but with the river conditions so bad I suggested we drink beer on the porch and watch the logs go by, So We Did.. 8) .

Some lake lovers can't believe us River people put up with the dangers and changing condition that multiply the dangers that rivers have but I think that's most it's charm, I love it when it's at it summers low and warm and inviting to when it's at it's deadliest churning a mixture of ice, rocks, gravel, tree's,docks, boats, camps,r'v's ,cars, trucks and houses ( All i have seen go down the river over the years) It is what makes it so interesting.

Here's some pics to compare. First one is from this w/e..   Roy

Here are some more, First one is me surfing hill billy style  ;D and the second is the island taken from the top of the hill above my cottage at the top left corner of it's property line, Mt neigbor that's building a house up there is extending a steel I-beam deck over that hill and putting his hot tub on it, Deadly but way cool view, I'd be worried about my drunk friends falling.  :)   I have seen that Island completely submerged  :o .. There is a small very old cemetery at the end of my driveway that has civil war people buried in. Every Memorial day at 9.20 a.m a school bus loaded with the oldest area veterans and the local legions firing squad line comes bouncing down the back river dead end road to this old cemetery to file out, line up with one empty chair for the MIA soldier, empty except for the MIA flag draped over it, They say some words for the MIA soldier and the soldiers that are buried there and all others all over the world, Nothing Political Just words of thanks, not many either, they start at exactly 9:30 and there pulling out by 9:45 and that includes the Bag pipes solo with a 21 gun salute and the playing of Taps, Makes me proud to be a United States Citizen and that feeling is seldom felt these day's so I video'd  some of it to share with my neighbors and thought that maybe some of you would enjoy, I hope so. http://www.youtube.com/user/TheRiverRoy#p/a/u/0/s2jKZ7IfgzA    Roy
