Title: Father's Day Float
Post by: Luckie Stiff on April 28, 2010, 07:37:38 AM
It's getting to be that time boys. The annual Father's Day Float is coming up, we'll be at Big River the weekend of June 18-20 2010. I'm beyond ready for this trip. I have a room with 2 beds @ the Big River Inn and I need a roommate for the weekend! Anyone going that doesn't have a room, or doesn't mind splitting one?

I've been told by many people that Parker is not a good place to take a jet boat. They said that the Parker Strip has all the big boats going out there now and the water gets rough. Ive never been there so I dont know but among the people who have told me this is someone who has owned many jet boats and even races them.

What have you guys seen out there lately?

X2, Big River park is a few miles downriver from the Parker Dam. Nothing like Parker, and the water level is not conducive to wake barges either. Perfect for lil boats!

Well my big boat is staying home.   I am far too mentally damaged from last weekend to go back for more.   Frankly the level of immaturity, the total lack of good judgement and taste, the utter disregard some of you showed for helpless animals .  .  .  well lets just say I have been mentally scarred for life.
I don't know if I will ever be able to enjoy the river again.   In fact I din't know if I can ever enjoy boating again.

I think I am going to go work for PETA with Pam Anderson.     Screw drinking and good times with friends !        Who's with me ?       ;D

Is what Ive been told about the Parker Strip true then? My buddies and I are looking for somewhere to go that can be our permanent vacation spot but they have prop boats and I have my jet. Parker is where we are going to plan for our next trip.

Pretty much. Parker get real busy and lots of rollbar boats. You are better off going to Blythe or maybe Big River. Blythe was great this past weekend. If you are behind the orange curtain you can get to Blythe in about 3 1/2 hours.

Not that I know of on the room Aqua! I am planning to ask Luckie Stiff if I can get next in line behind The Beav if he isn't making it, otherwise we are trucking to the Motel 6.

Luckie Stiff,

Can I get next in line on the room behind The Beav, well not literally behind him but on the list of the next potential room taker. I have to be more careful with my words around here....

It is gonna be hard for your posse to top DJ Gabe and his rodeo, but it should be fun nonetheless.    Please everybody take lots of pics.   Dammit I wish I could make this trip but I'm dragging the boat up to Lake Lahontan east of Tahoe the following weekend.   Not sure if I'm spelling it right but if you Google Fallon NV you will find it.  BIG ASS piece of water.  At last count there are 70 of us rolling out for a little R&R high desert style.

Well...I had doubts of ever making it to the river this summer...we had our little boy 3 weeks ago.  The wife has given me a pass for the weekend so long as I'm home for father's day.  I'll be rolling out Thursday night and heading home saturday night...staying in our trailer at spot 118 at the RV park.

If anyone else needs a place to sleep...I've got an extra bed in the trailer thurs/Fri night....it'll cost $10/night for an extra person to get into the park, but that's it.

very family oriented. ive been there since i was 8-10 years old, i'm 28 now. everyone knows everyone. everyone helps each other out. we party, but it isnt the type of partying that keeps everyone up all night. docks are a non issue for me because i pull the boat out everyday. i like it because its small. also has really nice trees and grass down by the water, with a swimming hole for the kids. come check it out

My trailer is there from may-oct this year, but it's usually from April to sep. I'll be there fathers day and the weekend before. Alot of new people pulled in last weekend. I've never worried about leaving my stuff there. If you come by, let me know, just make sure you stop at the front and talk to the managers. They're great people Gary and Gloria. They won't recognize your truck anyways and chase you down in the golf cart.

the pile he hit is very easy to see if the water is low. its actually asphalt chunks about 6" thick and probably like 4-6' in diameter.

Title: Re: Father's Day Float
Post by: sandeggo on June 06, 2010, 09:39:27 AM
ok so if anyone doesn't know, here is where the rock pile is. its a really skinny area of the river and its in a blind turn coming up river. pay attention in this area. if the water is low do not go on the other side of the island. its only about 3' deep when the water is all the way up. red dots is the huge asphalt pile. green is the skinny section that you are ok to go in. dont get too close to the island, stay about 20' off it. also do not let off the gas. even the biggest boats here will be fine.
(https://www.socaljetboats.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi15.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fa376%2F00s-ten00%2Fmisc%2FPicture1-1.png&hash=ac364a4c7e1dfb9015d01ecee0c10043381328e8)

then here is a half ass guide to shallow spots. the long red one in the center of the page is the rock bar that always gets people. the is a little red bouy towards the top of it now.follow the green line and youll be ok. i drew it accurately so when it crosses sides of the river. do it.

I used Google Earth and got some satellite shots of the area between BR Inn and the dam. I'm not gonna tell you where you should or shouldn't boat, just look at the pics and make your own decisions.

Here's one from about BR Inn, down river a little way.

the catfish cantina opened back up again but beer and wine only
green mart has minor grocery stuff, they have a decent burger sandwiches and pizza cash only
the restaraunt is the dock, it's at the day use park, plan on being there a while. Food isn't too bad
down river is pretty uneventful unless you go all the way down to lost lake area. Chromey search for a half ass guide to big river that I made last year for beaches and coves etc.

For some reason, I don't remember the park fees being that much.... :screwy:

I had $7 in my brain, but still $18 isn't bad. Musta been $7 at ANOTHER unofficial event, yada, yada, yada....

OK so how deep is the water down that way?Its been many tears since I have been down to the lower river and all I remember is that it was shallow if memery seves me correctly.Does the river fluctuate up and down?More or less what I am asking is is it it deep enough for my cruiser.I guess I can ride around on tards boat.

It seems like once the water is up, it's up all day. Last year I saw quite a few VDrive boats running around, and some I/O boats too.

Nordie I have something in the mix that will take him down as far as a new power plant but time and money is killing me right now.Just for the record Gregs boat will pull me out of the hole but wide open I barely pull him on the top but I will take it.These cruisers are heavy and need lots of room to get up to speed. As for now my boat is fast enough with that little 454.Gregs boat should be a lot faster with his big ci 575 motor. Its all in the rigging!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that today was not a precurser of things to come  :banghead:

This afternoon my Wife calls me and says she has a nail near the edge of her tire (month old Goodyears), so I have her stop at my old shop to have them take a look at it.  They patched it but recommended replacing the tire, so I ordered another new tire  :banghead:

Michelle takes the car to Cabazon to meet her dad and swap vehicles (so we can tow the camping trailer and boat the same day), on her way home she stops for food and hears a hissing sound, by the time she gets the food and pulls away to park the tire is FLAT!  :banghead:

So, I gather up my nitrogen bottle, jack and tools and run to the rescue  :screwy:  (should have made her call AAA)  ;)

Somehow she ran over a razor blade and cut the hell out of the tire (another Goodyear) :banghead:

Well, I shoved a plug in it, aired it up, and sent her home.  Tomorrow I'll get it busted down and patch it correctly and keep my fingers crossed that the damn thing doesn't come apart during the trip to Parker.

After all this the tires I was concerned about are on the travel trailer, this could be an expensive vacation  :banghead:

I think I have a headache!

Thanks,  both were right rear already.  The Mazda tire was close to the shoulder so it is being replaced.  The Chevy truck tire was in the center of the tread but was about 1" cut in the lug, I'll find out tomorrow how bad the inside looks

Post by: 76NORDIC on June 10, 2010, 10:50:21 PM
It really does suck when they get hit in the shoulder of the tire, cause that is the worst place. That is where the most flexing goes on, and also the end of the belt package. A lot of places will patch it up and say your good to go, but that isn't right.  Good luck with your Trk tire

Ok, lets do a BBQ.   Friday or Saturday night?

I've got at least one Weber...possibly 2.  Gotta check the storage.  my dad picks these things up by the dumpsters at the end of every season...we used to have a garage full of em.

They have grilles right in the middle of the resort. Don't remember if gas or propane tho. No need to bring a grille, I can pony up for some charcoal and fluid though!

Bringin a couple Messican buds along as well, maybe some carne asada and home made accessories would be in order?

Starts off low in the AM, then gets better by mid morning.

You should be good with the new boat, but you might want to bring an extra prop just in case.

I've been in Parker since Saturday... Had some thunder clouds Saturday and Sunday that helped keep the temps down a little.

Monday was nice, hot but nice.

Yesterday we went up to Lake Havazoo, cruised up into the Gourge area     floated down than buzzed through the Channel (picked up some trash in the impeller and had to nurse it back to the launch ramp).  Wind picked up just as we were heading out, man it came up quick and got choppy

Today is windy (not big gusts, but blowing all the time), haven't even put the boat back into the water

Hope the weather is good for the weekend.

if you get too drunk, shut one eye so you can still see straight and not hit the rocks that are STICKING OUT OF THE FAWKING WATER MAKING THE ONLY RAPID LOOKING THINGS IN THE WHOLE RIVER THAT YOU CAN"T POSSIBLY NOT SEE like someone on another board did not too long ago.

Made it home a bit after midnight last night....did the father's day thing with family today.  I had a good time meeting everyone., weather was great...water was up...doesn't get much better than that.  Sucks about all the busted boats though.  Strangely enough, this is the first weekend since I built mine that I didn't have to put a wrench to it all weekend.

looks like i missed a good time. i had an ok weekend. i was able to get the new boat wet on sat. but after the 24hour marathon to get to blythe after the blow out in the truck i was not in the mood for anything. i called Yuma, sandiego, la, quatrzite and everywhere in between. icould not find someone with a spare. i had to get amandas sister to drive out from la cause we had a 35 on a rim in the garage. so she brought that out i put iton the truck on sunday. then had to drive to a mom and pop tire shop to get another used 35 so that both of my front tires were the same size. made it home ok. but my truck looks pretty stupid right now.

That you did my brother! Actually, it did run pretty good all day Sunday, Brad wouldn't get back in it, though, lol. I think the "rainbird" intake gasket leak and milky oil coming out the breathers worried him. "It's an Olds, that ain't nothin" I said. Still ran all day!!

Skip did end up towing it back in Sunday night tho. I blame that one on Rivertard who made me stop for a "Personal" emergency and I managed to flood it and drain the battery...... :banghead:

So 3 tows total, I think, unless I'm missing one here somewhere. Little YJ pump impressed me though!

It was great getting together again and also meeting some of the new faces out at Big River this weekend. I wish we could have hung out with you guys a little longer and partied with all of you Saturday night. I was even jealous when I seen the pictures of you guys floating back on Saturday afternoon. I was under the impression everyone was just heading back to camp and trailering the boats. I left earlier in case I ran into some engine trouble (boat wasn't sounding to good) and I needed to be towed in. I figured that if I was out in front and had some trouble someone could have pulled me in as they went back to camp. Sucks for me..........Oh well.

Unfortunatly my father-in-law hurt his back during the week and was having a hard time getting around. I told him about the guys I had already met from SCJB and he was looking forward to heading out with us on Saturday to Big River, even though he was hurting. Well, it didn't work out as planned after he boated with us on Parker all day Friday. It clearly F'd up his back even more and he said there was no way he would be going with us. My buddy and I both agreed that we would hang out with him at Fox's for the night (Sat.) since he did allow us to stay at his pad for the weekend. I also figured I would make my wife happy by doing this as no one else could come out that weekend, including his son.

I look forward to the next trip out with everyone.........maybe Parker ??????????????? Just throwing it out there in case anyone is interested. Although, I do need to go through the engine before the next trip......

Beersmeyer.

There were quite a few kids dissapointed it broke. Me included, lol. Surprised me how many people recognize that boat there.

It'll be back! With a lil more attitude probably, now that I know the whole things gotta come apart.  :banghead:

Im pretty sure there were 5 trailered all weekend. mine kept giving me little shit fits but stayed running for the most part. Skip had some rocker stud issues but we got that handled,  rays charger had a rainbird at the front of the intake manifold but still ran her, and chromey had a little oil seepage and a tipped over baterey but he kept her running. I think that was it but I may be missing one or 2.

Anytime Chromey. We did rob a lil off that engine Saturday, lol. Given we'da been staying a couple more days, I think we'da pulled Rivertards engine and dropped the rest of the thing in his boat too!  ;)

As Chromey said, that's how we roll!

Hats off to everyone and their generosity! Not only with the parts, tool loaning, but also for getting your hands dirty and just jumping in and helping. The free rides, tows, refreshments and snacks. Honestly, just like I remember Family reunions back when I was a kid..........you know, before they invented fire........ ;D

Well...I guess I'll join the broke down club.  Found a bunch of glitter in the oil filter today so it got torn down....looks like boat flex/pump bearing deflection was a little more than I'd anticipated and used up the slop I left in the D-line...the thrust from the pump was leaning on the crank and wiped out the thrust surface.  Crap.
