End of summer blowout weekend, who's down? If we get enough people together I can reserve a group campsite. Let me know ASAP and I'll start planning it. Friday August 29th to Monday Sept 1st 2008
http://www.co.monterey.ca.us/parks/sanantonio.html (http://www.co.monterey.ca.us/parks/sanantonio.html)

Would love to go! But................heading up to Pismo for a few days with the family and a bunch of friends to play on the beach. For those who have never been to San Antonio, make the trip. You will not be sorry!
-
WE'ER ALL OVER this one !! We'll be there with boats ,beer door prizes and BBQ (helpin Skip) Tom
-
WOW , door prizes !!! Its still to far away to know for sure but I will do my best to be there. ;D
-
I'm so there! Don't know which boat will make it, but we always have two running boats (Kind of an unspoken rule), let me know if any help is needed in the planning, not sure what I can do but I'm not totally worthless, (at least thats what my mom keeps telling me) ???
-
Well hell, you're in Morgan Hill, that's just a hop skip & jump from San Antonio, I say you go there and pick out the real estate for the weekend ;D
Serioiusly, if we can get some people motivated, this could be a GREAT Labor Day weekend, perfect end to the summer.
-
I can do that, you guys like north or south shore? I think north is better for groups but I dunno ??? probably should figure it out pretty soon though right?
San Antonio res. is about an hour and a half haul from my driveway, so big hop, big skip, but small jump... ;D
Lemme know!
-
I like the South Shore, there's a great group campground called Harris Creek A Loop, it's got like 26 sites, 2 bathrooms with showers, it's close to a launch ramp. I know a LOT of folks like the North Shore, I'm not real into it b/c I like tress and shit when I camp, and I'm not taking the trailer, just a tent and the boat.
We need to get a solid head count of who's going and see what the majority says.
The NS is pretty flat, no trees, kind of barren
The SS is pretty, Harris Creek has oak trees, grass, all kinds of cool naturey shit

All kinds of cool naturey shit?, dude, that sounds like the place! ;D I've got a little motorhome that we use, so whatever "floats your boat" (heehee).
Time for a role call!

Might be interested in this since never been there. Usually head to the river this weekend but the last few times have been a bust. Problem so far with going to SA is we dont have any camping gear and we have a few mini-weenie dogs we always bring.

Are their names "Hot link and Frank"? ;D j/k, may be able to scare up some extra gear if you can make it, I use a little MH but have tents and crap out the Wazoo! (not literally).
As far as cooking and stuff, bring some food and we'll just make a bigger fire in the bbq.
-
Sounds good. We can probably get some stuff from family members. Are there showers available. WOuld hate to go a few days without being able to get the sunblock off. Might even check out some hotels in Paso and make the drive in everyday.

That's one of the reasons I vote for the South Shore, nice campgrounds, trees, naturey shit, and SHOWERS/restroom buildings scattered about, I've got a tent you're more than welcome to, the dogs can kick it in the trailer if it gets too hot or whatever.
We need to get a head count on this.
Who's IN?
-
Wonder how the water level is going to be
-
Water level shouldn't be too bad, Tom (JBP) would know for sure, in fact I think he was just up there a couple weeks ago. ;)
Even with a low level it won't be a problem.
-
I need to worry since have an outboard.
-
Trust me, you could have an ocean liner and not need to worry about the water level, it's a lake, it's deep, your O/B will be just fine.
-
Right there with ya, 454/Bravo I and it draws like 30" of water....the water is pretty deep and the shore is easy to "read".
-
If you are worried about water level's...dont be.

Thanks for the info on the water level. Count us in unless something drastic happens.

We're there !! Just trying to pick a boat out that matches my swim trunks ;D ;D
PS havent been to South shore in eternity (and don't mind) BUT at North you shore camp (and day camp) and leave the boat in at nite (safe secure and right in front of your rig too) We have had events weith as many as 75 boats and campers in one cove . Not sure you can do this at S/shore also more flat beaches and less rules
(https://www.socaljetboats.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi147.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fr319%2Fjetboatperformance%2Fcvdoa%252008%2FDSC09819.jpg&hash=4f81d73544e524fd27285fc659c63f9602299967)

This trip is sounding more and more tempting. I might just have to change my plans. I will be there next week ;D. Cant wait :banghead:

Time to change them Bobbo! The north shore doesn't appeal to me b/c my boat takes on enough water that I can't leave it in the drink at night! I'm way down for the south shore, whichever it is we need to decide, NOW, so we can make appropriate reservations.
Skip
-
dont care what shore skip wont leave my boat in the water anyway
-
Ok fellas, if we want to reserve the nice natruey campground (on the south shore) we need to do it NOW. They require payment at the time of reservation, who's in? They only have 14 reservable sites left, after that it's first come first served. We're going to be on the North Shore, camping action! Campfires, BBQs, many cold beers...... gonna be a blast.
Let's get a list of who is comitted to going
1. Skip
2. GT Jets
3. Rogers TR
4. Tom & Rhonda
5. Propless
6. Ralph & crew
7. Flytime ;) (if momma lets him >:D)
8. Richey Rich
9. Phillip (102 MPH jet boat)
10. Jim Brock (if he doesn't go to Buena Vista, or he decides that this is going to be way more fun)
11. Prospect (if he gets his damn boat running)
-
Skip I'm down with whatever you choose ,I'll kick you down the $$ let me know for the deposit ,I havent been to SS SA in so long I cant recall I was just hopin there was a large day cam area for all of us (with boats) in a cove or 5 zone that was near the ramps vs having to drive to one and set up/take down etc Years ago the majority of the camp sites were a long way from the H2o ?? Tom
-
Tommy-
Can you go to the lake and pick out a good spot on the North Shore? I'm liking the NS more and more everytime I look at the map/pix of SA.
-
Tom-
I like the cove in that picture you posted, you wanna go out and stake our claim?
Let's DO this!
Skip
-
im going even if i dont get it running but be warned ill be in a bad mood all weekend :banghead:

I'll call SA today and try to get some details , not sure but It may be a "first come first serve" delio (except full hook ups) , the only other way ,in my experience is to get a group up there early week to land grab a large area I'lll post up what I can later.... T
-
UPDATE !! Just called SA north and south ,only Reservations period are at South shore (large groups only) The lady for someone to call monday am 805 472 2311 ,ask for "group" reservations Tom
-
We were up there a few weeks ago and had a great time, we stayed on the north shore, I havn't even been to the S/S and realy don't care to, I like having the boat right at my site and not having to bother with the launch ramp bs. yes the lack of trees gets "warm but with enough easy ups and the water being the front yard its better than having to pack everything in the boat every time you want to go for a putt, and leaving all your stuff for hours unattended is no problem when everyone and everything is in one place. I would like to be a part of this as well, here are a few pics from the trip

Skip, should I make the call? I'm going to SoCal (Long Beach >:D) this weekend so may be the last chance I have...

I think Tommy pretty much ran the gamut of phone calls, we can't reserve the North Shore, period. I spoke to one of the rangers today who told me that they won't turn anyone away, I guess we'll just have to hope we can all get in the same cove, or maybe suck it up and send Tommy some $$$ to grab some real estate on like Tues or Weds before the weekend.
Dozzr- would love to have you join us, this isn't a So Cal event per say, just a trip to LASR with some like minded people.
Anybody else interested?
-
If were still on for this we need an "Advance" team to get up there say Thursday (or earlier) to get set up and "take the beach This pic from last Sunday is North shore (first cove) lots of flat sandy beach etc
(https://www.socaljetboats.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi147.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fr319%2Fjetboatperformance%2FEliminator%2520V-drive%2FDSC00248.jpg&hash=c09538d7a79e3421f1ff7b1078bb2e99eed30b70)
-
Sounds like Tom's got the right idea, who's up for being the advance team? I'll supply the caution tape & stakes to claim the beach.
-
Finally talked the wife into going ;D Called up there and all the units are SOLD OUT  Shit :banghead: Now what do i do ???
-
Hey flytime, does that fall in under the "he who hesitates is stoned" heading?
-
tent it like all of us
-
Dont own a tent :-[. I'm sure I will figure something out :sly:
-
we bought a kick ass tent at wal mart like 80 bucks

If someone from JBP brings the project PT boat http://www.socaljetboats.com/index.php?topic=4205.msg60305#msg60305 . I don't think we'll need an advanced team. 15 boats led by project PT and we should be able to take and hold any beach we want !! >:D >:D Hey Tom, did you get the potato gun turret mounted on there yet ?

I have a case of Keystones with your name on it if you can hook us up with some nice spots. We all know that you got the skills and connections to make this happen. No pressure though ;)

P.S. I would like a nice sandy spot on the waters edge. ;).

Tom-
I'll match Bob's case of Keystone and raise it by one, that's 3 total. We really need this to happen so we can be assured some prime beach space. Whaddya think?

Hey Guys--
I could probably go over early and save some space. I didn't sign up earlier because I was unsure of the schedule, but just found out my wife is working (nights) the 25th through the 30th and I've got nothing else to do. It would be fun to get back to SA--it's been more than 30 years. I'll give Tom a call tomorrow to work out the details.

Pete, that would be freakin' awesome of you, all beer, chips and monies will be forwarded to you since Tom can't make it! Depending on how my week goes prior to that weekend, I'll either be there Thurs night or Fri morning. Can you save enough beach real estate for 10 boats? If you need anything get in touch with me and I'll do whatever I can.

What area should we aim for? A nice low-key place where Pete won't get mugged for the land would be nice.

Just got down from Shaver to my computer. The current plan is to tow over to San Antonio on Wed afternoon with a stop at JBP to pick up some extra anchors and buoys, shades, and "stuff" to spread out on the beach along with my motorhome, 4X4 PU, and 2 boats--probably both Sanger cruisers. For protection I'm bringing my youngest son (22yo). I'll stay in touch with Tom so he can keep everyone updated. I don't know about cell service, but my number is (559) 917-1785. I'm looking forward to greeting you'all when you arrive. Oh, by the way, I don't drink--a party for me is coke classic instead of diet. So--you don't need to bring any brews for me.
Mark--"Sanger Pete"

This is great news!!! One case of Coke Classic on the way.................................... .......

i will still bring the ice to keep the good ol coke classic from getting warm. Thanks a million PETE "aka Mark"

P.S. The kids are trying to talk mommy and daddy into sleeping in the tent with them tonight in the back yard :screwy:

;D ;D Thanks guys,
Its not a matter of parts, I have 99.9% of what I need, now its just time. I was out looking at it last night and I know I could have it on the water in time, but it wouldn't be something I would be proud to own ( not going to happen !!! ) . I still need to finish the rest of the mock-up/fab work than strip the whole boat down to nothing again to do the final finish on the floors ( I didn't do it before because I didn't want to be walking around on metal shavings on the fresh shinny floor) And than reassemble it ( all polished and pretty ;D ).
I will probably just shoot over for the day, it wont take long to get there on the bike as long as I stay away from the man (https://www.socaljetboats.com/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi239.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff97%2Fpropless%2Ftaser.gif&hash=937a1cbf18a83c55ec60ef74f3574273f5fa8896)

Some quick info from the website:
Lake San Antonio - North Shore
Camping
Lake San Antonio, North Shore, offers hundreds of first come, first serve hook-ups and non hook-ups on a 24 hour basis. Come in anytime but if you are leaving that day then you need to vacate your site at 2:00 p.m.
Shoreline camping with 18 full hook-ups and 73 electrical and water sites is available at North Shore. Sites are recommended for self-contained units.
Guide to Camping the Pleyto Points
Boating and Swimming
• You can launch and retrieve your boats at the launch ramps and keep them moored at your shoreline campsite during your stay at the park
• Coves and an area 100 yards off the shoreline are zoned 5 mph; this is strictly enforced for boaters
• Shoreline launching and recovery of watercraft is strictly prohibited
• Swimming in the coves and on the points is allowed within the 5 mile per hour zones; swim at your own risk
• We do not provide lifeguard services
• Swimmers are not permitted in the main body of water with open boating
• For your safety, the “buddy system” should always be used and parents should watch their children
Vehicles
• Please camp one vehicle deep on either side of the access road
• Keep exit routes for cars and RVs clear so they may easily vacate the campsite in the case of an emergency
• Park Rangers will request vehicles to be moved to decongest such areas
• Keep 20 feet or more between you and the next vehicle
Campfires
• Campfires are permitted in metal containers only with a cleared 10 foot diameter area around the fire
• You can use braziers and BBQs for this purpose
• Please do not put trash in fire pits or barbeques
Toilets and Dumpsters
• Chemical toilets are provided throughout the points for your convenience
• Please do not throw cans, bottles, disposable diapers or any type of trash into chemical toilets; they damage our pumping equipment and delay cleaning
• Dump stations are located at McCandless Springs, “A” Loop and “B” and “C” loops
• Trash dumpsters are located in the high use areas on the points
• Please do not leave bags of trash on the shoreline; deposit in dumpsters
Drinking Water, Security, Quite Hours, Firearms
• Drinking water is available in most locations throughout the park
• Please lock up all your valuables and equipment securely at night
• Dogs are welcome, but must be kept on a 7 foot leash
• Quite hours are 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.; no radios, stereos, generators or loud noise
• Firearms, fireworks or anything that launches a projectile is prohibited
Lake San Antonio - North Shore
Boating, Fishing and Launch Areas
Boating Guidelines
Please familiarize yourself with the following local boating procedures:
• There is a traffic pattern on San Antonio Lake.
• Always keep to the right of the center-line buoys in a counter clockwise direction.
• Night boating permits are required when operating a boat during the hours of darkness. These permits may be obtained from the entry station, marina, park maintenance yard, or any ranger.
• Overnight camping or fires of any type are not allowed on the lake shoreline
• 5 MPH speed zones have been established to provide for several special use areas. Water skiers must start drop outside these areas.
• A bright red flag must be displayed from the boat when a skier is in the water.
• It is no longer legal to ride in a boat while it is being towed behind a vehicle.
• All children, 11 years of age or younger, must wear a life jacket when in a boat.
• All vessels must have an annual boat permit or day use receipt for every day on the water.
I don't recall the exact amount to camp but I want to say it's somewhere near $20 per night, boat is like $6 per day,
and as far as I can tell, there is no speed limit on the lake!

Holiday weekend fee's are $32.00 a day and $8.00 to launch. :screwy: There is NO speed limit ;D, not like I have to worry about that my boat :'(. When I was there last they had done away with night permits. All you had to have was the red/green on the front and white in the back. BEWARE...most of the center line bouy light dont work and it gets VERY dark if there is no moon.

Thanks

Skippy is this like when we used to camp at yosemite and there were signs that said "DONT FEED THE BEARS" ???
Tom-
While I understand and see the humor in your post, this is a very serious matter. Things got very ugly this past weekend, Christi almost ended up in the psych ward @ county hospital. I'm not going to go into details, when I posted that I was asking you guys (as friends of mine) to be aware of the situation.
Thanks, see you in 7 days suckers! ;D
-
I am always glad to hear people getting help when the situation calls for it, on a positive note for all involved or going through what seems like the impossible, there is always hope and its not always in vein, on the 28 of this month I will have 5,745 days sober (my 13 year "sober" birthday), Of course I didnt stop on my own The state of Ca. was kind enough to give me free room and board for a little over two years to work on my program ::), but all is good now and I am more than happy to help out if you need some "tech support" ;D
And as far as the boat/trip goes, I am litterally working around the clock to wheel and deal my boat motor swap and have it there for the weekend. If all else fails I have a couple buddies that might let me use their boats, I am really looking forward to the weekend and am really bummed the olds didn't hold out a little longer, I loved looking at the chevy guys as I would fly by and this would have been the PERFECT trip to do it. Oh well now all I have to do is spend every extra penny for the next year and I'll have the chevy looking and running like the "other motor", thats right I'm a chevy guy now.
Ok now back to work.
-
Dozzr-
I hope you make it, it'd be nice to meet some of the folks from here. As for the BBC swap, did you find motormounts?
What else do you need to make this happen? Jim Brock has TONS of shit in his shop, I'm positive he has the mounts, and PTO/Drivelines etc
-
I talked with him yesterday, and he gave me his number but I have possible deals going on all over the place right now so I am not sure what will go through and what wont, but I appreciate all the help you guys are great!!
-
Hals boat looks like it can boogie!
Pics of the fun.
Dozzer..... you're going BBC? Did the Olds puke or just after more HP?
Paint it green!!!!!! >:D
-
Sorry we're not going to make this one. We're going back out to the river. Glassy water all day long there!
Hope all you guys have a great weakend. I've always loved that lake. Boat always seemed a little bit faster there for some reason.
If you see a blown blue Eliminator Spint watch out. He likes to run you in front of his camp. So they can watch him saw people off. Didn't happen when he ran me though...sucker!
Smoked his ass twice! Mention it to him if anybody talks to him. I'm sure sometime in September we'll back up there...just to look for him again!
Tom- We wish Rhonda the best and all the strength to battle the demons!
Dozzr- Happy early Sober birthday! And its about time you came over to the chevy side! I think you will be much happier with how much abuse these motors can dish out, and for you thats exactly what you need! :o
Take care of one another.
-
Tom- We wish Rhonda the best and all the strength to battle the demons!
Unless Rhonda has a problem we dont know about I think you mean Skips wife Christi. I'm sure Skip appreciates your'e thoughts. Very cool of you.

Skip just read your post re; Christy and the situation following, I just want to say with all seriousness that I really respect the way you got it out in the open, that type of forethought is what I think it takes to make things work the way you need them to work.
All our thoughts are with you and you can count on our family to respect your request.
It's an old habit, if it breaks we try to fix it...As always, let me know if there is anything we can do to make things easier.

I'm bringing a little, got lots of small stuff and a few good sized oak logs that I need to split smaller, probably can't build a "northwest fire" ;D (a Northwest fire normally requires a chainsaw and a winch on your 4X4 :screwy:)
I'll bring what I can.
-
Tom-
Maybe Friday once I get there we can run to el rancho and grab some. I'm bringing a burn barrel so whatever we burn will need to fit into that.
-
Well I am hellbent and committed to this motor swap now, I just picked up a new/used (10K miles) crate motor, and I need to sell off all the olds stuff to get it put in, but I do have all the goodies lined up, I dont think I am going to be able to make it for the weekend though, but I do have a couple buddies that have boats with no plans for next weekend, so if I am not swamped doing the swap, maybe I'll try and borrow one of them for a day. And no the crate motor isn't staying in it, it'll just get me through the remainder of the summer and then the real 454 wil go in it. Its going to be a drag going through all this work and have a slower setup, but at least I will be able to work out the bugs before I hit it with the built motor. This really sux, I have tried for a couple years to pull something like this together @ San Antonio and now its happening and I am boatless... :banghead:.....Ok I better get out of here I am getting pist thinking about it. I am pretty sure I have everything but the headers, and if I can pull off a small miracle (financially) I will get it done this week. I just went out front and looked under my tree bt no money fell out of it over night, I will keep looking ;D

Hey everyone
Just got down from Shaver to check the email, etc. I'm still planning to arrive at SA Wednesday afternoon to save some space for the weekend, so I guess that means less than 2 days for me. Looking forward to a great weekend.

Ok new update ;D
I sold some parts off the olds, (I guess looking under the tree for money worked) I pulled the motor out of the boat tonight, I am pulling the motor out of the truck tomorrow (454 crate motor w/10k miles on it), I have to install a new cam, and heads, scored all the parts I need for the swap, a quick trip to PAW and I'll have all the stuff I need, get out the candy green paint, polish up some aluminum, and with any luck at all I will see you all sat evening or sun am. It wont be as fast as the olds was, oh wait a minute it has to run to be fast ::) but I will do my best to make it before the weekend is over, one thing I have to say is you guys on these sites are awesome, all I had to do is post a couple ads make a few calls and within a week I am all taken care of. Now the fun stuff begins.
Don't scratch me off the list just yet, I'm givin' it hell. I aint sleeping until this thing is running.

I'm seriously conflicted Guys Rhonda says I shouldn't bring a Vdrive to Socal jets event ?? I love and respect her but...??
-
Props are ok by me, bringing one myself because I have no common sense an put my jet all over the garage floor, the other jet has "0" time on it and spent too much time working on other crap anyway..
Bring what you're comfortable with as far as I concerned, next year, if I can buy enough gas to go  I am going to try and bring the "beercan" and show what a "real" jet can do, lets just say they have more "mettle" (sorry bad pun) ;D
See you there!
-
I feel like a frikkin woman at a Penny's hat sale ,I'll sleep on it ;)
-
I say bring a couple boats and that way you can pick and choose which one you feel like taking out. ;)

I'm liking that Idea :o

Good call Skip its actually road 2 oposite side of the cove (over looks road one) and stay to the right, the side we picked today has a nice beach and deep water ,road one was a "mosquito pond" Tom

Working on it man, wanted to be there this afternoon but broke some stuff last night, may have it resolved, getting there one way or the other...Good call on the deeper water, it will be mucho cooler too...Seems like every time I get to go on a little weekend outing the weather flips out  (was 100* here today and I work for an air conditioning contractor...) :banghead:

Got home about 12:45 this AM. Thanks for getting this set up Tom and Skip. Thanks to Mark for saving the spot. Had a great time camping for the first time in 30+ years. Felt a little bad for Propless driving all the down to the lake to find pretty much everybody gone except for me, GT Jets and Tom and Rhonda. GT and I hung around until about 6:30pm or so taking some final boat rides and getting everything packed up. The wind never did calm down yesterday so the only thing the people that left early missed was a mini tornado/dirt devil that came down the lake and was lifting up peoples camps and turning them into messes. Kinda cool looking. We have a few pics that I will post later. Hope everybody made it home safe.
Bob
-
I thought I saw Propless turn onto the road to the lake as I was heading out, glad we missed the wind. Had a great time, boat ran beautiful all weekend long, got to GPS it finally, 3 adults, 22 gallons of gas, 67.6 MPH. I'm happy with it, the previous owner had it @ 74 with a different pump and a droop & rideplate, we'll see what this winter brings >:D
Bob, for not camping in 30+ years, you looked like a damn infomercial for Coleman, good job, did the kids have a good time? We'll do this again, except on the South Shore (Harris Creek Loop) see y'all soon.
Skip
-
LOL Skip. The kids had a great time! We are already planning the next camp out. We are thinking about heading over to BV in a couple weeks maybe on a Friday night and camping/boating until Sunday. Let me know if you are down for that and I will keep you posted. Now the real fun starts. Gotta go unpack, wash the boat and Tahoe. Well worth it!
Bob
P.S. Good job on that boat Skip.

Yea that was me Skip , late as usual ::) , but I didn't get lost ;D (well not really). Ill be glad to bring my little boat down (if its done) for the next trip .
Everyone was packing up and heading out by the time I got there but I still got to hang for a while with GT, flytime, Hondo Hall, and Tom / Rhonda, and got a ride from Tom in the V-drive cruiser (very comfy). I'm heading out to the garage now, back to work on the project.
See you guys next time ;D
-
Made it home by 9 PM no problems with the exception of a little light issue on the trailer, 5 min. fix. Thanks for the help proppy, nice to meet you, also very nice to hang out with everybody and talk boat, going to be going out more now that we sort of have our crap together, probably just me and the kids now that Mrs. GT jets is starting school tomorrow for a year and a half, but oh well, kids are getting older and pretty soon won't want to hang out with "old people".
If the weather holds out this year, we are trying to put together a short trip in October to LSAR or maybe Naci. don't know yet will advertise if we get it into action.
Again, nice seeing you all, some of you again, would definately do it again and I promise the next time my boat will squirt water instead of blend it.. Although given the water conditions am glad I brought the cruise ship, pretty windy.

I was checking out this thread and realized I probably passed some of you coming in as we were on our way out last year. We were there 'til Thursday that week. I hope you plan another group trip to San Antonio this year. We're planning on being there a couple times this summer, including the week before Labor Day, and would really like to get together with some of you if possible.
To JBP Tom; after last years cam failures, I'm am going full roller on the Olds. George at Clay Smith is handling the head mods. (He's about 5min from my house, so it kinda makes sense.) Thanks again for your time last summer when I broke at Lake BV.
