I really wanted to take my boat apart and start building it up but I will be waiting untill after this event.
Last year was a blast... but I was super bummed that I couldn't go out and lay down some passes with that POS turbo motor!
Looking forward to seeing everyone again and shooting the shit with everyone AGAIN!!! ;D

In a nut shell....
Bunch of friends of the late Tom Papp, and there freinds and their freinds all hang out in the parking lot to pretty much shoot the shit and watch everyone roll in before a (literally) HERD of boats head out to "coors light cove" for some more shit shooting and lie swapping and most importantly if you pay close enough attention, you'll catch some great stories of Tom Papp
I will also tell you that is alot of pairing up some serious hardware.
Not just a jet boat thing but literally a memorial

Josh you are more than welcome to stay at my place... As for boating laws, ya just go by the rules at the lake you are on. At smellsomore, They have a speed limit around the outside, and a High speed in the middle. As for noise I dont think its going to be a problem, unless you launch at the North ramp, theres an old codger that won't let you launch if ya have OT's without mufflers :screwy:

Dude you guys don't need to worry about your baffles for this event!
It's January not the middle of summer! Check out the video's on youtube...I don't think anybody had baffles last year.
I ran my twin turbo eliminator last year without any baffles and didn't have any issues at all.
Shit...last year everybody was racing 3 wide in a 5mph zone!! No rangers bothered any body, pretty laid back event.

We didn't run baffles or a spark arrestor last Jan.
As a matter of fact, we ran it on the 4th of July the same way, with race #'s and still no problem.
Here's a couple of pics from last Jan

Baffles are no problem, like the man said its winter.

BUT IF LEO gets word of racing in the cove like has been known to happen     :o    I would not be so sure es no problema.

I know what its like Nate last year I got ran down @ the Tom Papp memorial by the same guy I was on a bad tune trying to dial it in by making a couple passes it was my first time in the boat he had me real good a few times and he wouldn't let it go fuker kept coming back some of you guys that were there saw it, to top it off I talk to the guy after all the shame he was running a 250 shot on the bottle. It really sucks now that I have a new setup and a faster hull its not even close to being ready.

Not even close to being ready? wtf? Didn't you already have your motor dyno'd. Slap it in and lets go!

Earlier than you will be there.   The ramp is at a campground, just c'mon in.   I guarantee there will already be people there no matter how early you show up.   The question is how cold will it be when you have to cruise from one end of the lake to the other and it is only 45 - 55 degrees outside.   >:D

Hello all, new to his site, although I've been lurking for a bit.  ;)

I've read the threads for this event and I would really like to come out, meet some new peeps, check out some old school boats, and drink some beers. I've had very little time to use my boat in the last four years due to family priorities (babies, house, marriage). I guess it's a good thing I bought the boat outright and I haven't had to make payments for something I don't use. Anyway, I usually run my boat out at Parker and have no problems finding AVGas, but since I rarely go to any lakes around here I need to know where I can purchase it near the Whittier area. I've called some of the airports and have had no luck....... Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Beersmeyer.

Post by: GlassCutter on December 22, 2009, 09:13:01 PM
Yes IT IS THAT SLICK   but probly not so bad in the winter.   In the summer there is no way to stand on it without holding on to something solid.   With my 285 lbs  I will slide all the way down to the end of the dock.  :o
Most of you guys just drive your boats on your trailers and your gone.  Ol Glasscutter has to get in waist deep to center the boat and work the winch to pull her up snug.   My feet got nearly numb last time in January but its all good.

Ray that there is the ramp you will be using along with everyone who doesn't go to Crane's.   But that ramp is only two boats wide if both trucks get real cozy with one another.

Spend a week in Winter Park, Colorado when they got 12' of snow. Drove everyday in a 2 wheel drive and never once put chains on.

Although next truck will be a Duramx 2500 4x4

not only did berkely set a presidence on how to make a jet-pump they also had to set a presidence on what not to do with a pump hence the je....e meaning error....with that being said there is no loader bearing avail for the je

Error or not, was enough to own YOUR a$$ at 3/4 throttle and still keep up with Skip and crew!

I guess if no loader bearings are available for the JE then I shouldn't even bother putting a loader on huh?

Yes, Boost, I DID manage to get Tommy to put together a diverter for the JE, wasn't easy, and he said he had to call in the Army Corps of Engineers and a few calls to NASA to do it though. It isn't a split bowl, unless it's broken, and according to LuckyStiff, looks a LOT like a mere swim step.........

That it has! But only after the headers have cooled! I do love the outboard hand hole though, 'tis a shame about the loader bearings! I thought I could make a contender out of the thing!

I'm with you! Would be nice to see some formal verification on it! My GPS is apparently broken, according to Beerjet, even though it's OK in the truck, lol. Gotta negotiate with the kids on it. But I think I'll win!  ;)

Brian- No sand bagging here my friend! C'mon you know I'll race anybody, anywhere, anytime...never said I'd win. I just like lining up with someone and seeing whats up... all in good fun bro!
All though my boat does seem to get a little faster each time I mess with it... I don't know where its at now... might have to remove my back seat too!
I'll be bringing my GPS if anybody wants to borrow it.

Ray- You gotta bring the Moo boat dude. Who else is gonna tow me in when I run out of gas again! haha.....

I say when all the fast boats take a break from racing we should head out and make some passes!

For what its worth I vote for Team Green.    That thing is so old school its just sick.   Love that exhaust, don't change a thing.

If you want to run in the speed zone go for it.   You ain't gonna be close to the fastest boat there, so I wouldn't be risking an epic ticket if I was you by racing in the cove.  It will be like shooting fish in a barrel for LEO if they have a mind to.
Title: Re: Tom Papp memorial
Post by: IRRebel on January 02, 2010, 09:27:11 PM
THAT is what I'm up against, LMAO! (Funny chit Skip!!!)

As far as the fastest, Nate, Moo is right now, but that's not going to matter much in this gathering. She's not, or ever gonna be, the fastest on any water. She's VERY Quick and VERY Fast for what she is, and with a JE pump (Everyone says it's junk), I'm impressed with that lil thing! There's not  a Sleek Rebel out there that can beat her, I can almost guarantee that.

The "Pickle", on the other hand, could become an extremely fast V-Bottom. Still not going to keep up with the tunnels or you gullwing boys, unless I lose my mind (completely) on the throttle!  ;D

We'll see which I bring to this. The Pickle "might" get a new engine and show up at the Temple Bar gig with a serious attitude!

Whatever boat I bring, I WILL race it balls out against anything! I'll lose, eventually if not immediately, I have no issues with shame and being beaten!

YOU, on another note, well, I think Moo can hold her own, and why you want it there!  ;D !!!!!

Ray

And yeah, try and hide and act innocent driving Moo! It ain't possible!!

Shamless thread jack. This reminds me of a racing story that still makes me laugh..

We had a guy from northern California that though he had the fastest boat in the universe, said it had such and such this and such and such that...
He went out for some testing the days before the race and the thing ran pretty good, not great, just good...

So some dudes from Idaho were out there screwing around, er um I mean testing and this dude from Cal. goes out to see what he had...He goes to pass them going upriver and the dudes from Idaho were just trying to get the temps regulated better (not going all that fast) so he passes them and just duesches them down with the rooster.

So about an hour later, he came over to their camp to "apologize" and started boasting about how awsome his boat ran...They let it go...That evening the dude from Cal. was out there testing and two dudes from Idaho passed him on both sides damn near sinking his stuff, he was WFO...I laughed my ass off...

BTW, they went by his camp and "apologised", they "though he was going much faster"..... ;D

Sorry Ray, had to, that some funny chit right there...

Oh yeah! We good Brian! I want to bring Moo for that same reason, but there is some substance and symolism to bringing a classic original to an event like this (Even though it ain't the prettiest thing going),
Moo does seem to come up quite often, LOL! My fault, I know... :screwy: ("that goddam Cow boat", I remember one of Nordies friends calling it at Mead)

Title: Re: Tom Papp memorial
Post by: GlassCutter on January 06, 2010, 01:57:54 PM
There really is only one ramp, the one we all know and love at Elsinore West Marina.  There are a couple places on the Ortega Mtns. side but Crane's is very narrow and there isn't much room for your rig.   West Marina has tons of parking and 8 or ten lanes wide.  Its channel to the main lake is also the deepest.   In the past lots of people have spent a long time BS'ing in the parking lot before actually launching.  But the end destination still seems to be Coors Cove at the opposite end of the lake.  Actually the much bigger cove next to it would be better (safer) for racing but nobody seems to go there.
Don't worry about it too much, just listen for the blowers and unmuffled headers.  ;D

If you come in on Riverside Dr. as you come down the big hill just before the lake there is an Albertson's / Chevron/AM PM right there for all your needs except race gas.  A block past Riverside and Lakeshore on the right is Hunny's if you want a real breakfast or donuts on the left if you speak Vietnamese or pay cash.
Drive until you see the big white wall directly across from the high school.  Pretty easy deal really.  You will probably have to go into the market/trailer to get launch permit.   As long as you get there after me, the bathrooms behind the market are real clean and probably more than you deserve.

Those of you who get there before me, feel free to use a porta-potty located near the ramp for your convenience.   :D

Oh yeah, and don't forget to keep your front wheels out of the water.

They are making sammiches right now.   Look for the ones with PB&J from ear to ear.

I'm actually thinking about hanging a SCJB.com sign on the front of the boat (because there are no stickers).

X2 on what Brad said.   I am surprised that with the experience that most folks out there have, they still were really not cool with returning "wakeless" but instead were killing us onshore with repeated 20-30 mph returns 25 feet off the backs of our boats.   Racing 3 wide is really not too safe either.   The water is way down and the cove is not real wide for that kinda thing.   Just a reminder, there is a counterclockwise traffic pattern on the lake and a High Speed Zone in the very center that is a mile long.

Also when leaving or entering the marina, BE SURE YOU STAY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CHANNEL!  IT IS VERY SHALLOW OUTSIDE OF THE MARKERS.  F'UP AT YOUR OWN RISK !

Just got back, didn't want to stay for the debauchery that will soon follow at some restaurant to be determined.

I counted 108 boats but there were still more coming in.  Spent the day just soaking up the sun and watching the races.  I don't think a lot of the real heavyweights showed up this year, but there were still a ton of nice shit out there today.  Said howdy to a bunch of peeps from here and even ran into RiverDave at one point.   It was good seeing Ray and Ralph and Boost again, along with a whole bunch of others who I have forgotten their names.  I even managed to stay sober this year.   Maybe bringing the kids along wasn't such a bad idea after all.
I saw LOTS of pics being taken (none by me) so I hope someone will be posting 'em soon.     Now I gotta go clean one really dirty boat.   Later . . .

Good to see you again too John! Next time I'll brink cups, OK?

Just got home (Wow, what a drive on back to back days, then my street is blocked off by the police. Some sort of Crime Scene at the end of the street, so I had to back the boat into some bitches driveway to turn around and she was apparently watching what the police were doing and gave the cop and my son (Both directing me) the Riot Act for "Trespassing on her  property without asking". She didn't find it too funny when I asked "how the hell could we do that without stepping on your property?" Cop laughed though). I can see someone getting the paper bag full of dog shit treatment in the near future...........damn kids...........

Good seeing all my friends again! Keith, Nate, Brian, Dozzer, Ralph, Rivertard (A little more under control today if you can beleive that!), Skip (Next time I won't let Becca wake you up!), Rick, Nick (Little man is so damn cute!),Hallet Dave, Jay, I know I am forgetting quite a few, Forgive me! My lil brain is FRIED on 5 ours sleep in the last 48 or better!

Good meeting and putting faces to new friends too! Boatless Bob (We're renaming you to "I have a Kitchen Bob" so you and Hallet Dave have something in common to talk about!  >:D), Andy (You're getting somewhere with that thing! keep after it!), Jake, Jason (Riverdad, hung around a lot longer than you planned huh?),Challenger, Tracey,  and some more from the PB and RD sites!

What a turn out huh?? And the "neighboor hood crime watch in Poon-Toon boats letting us get wild in the cove?  We must be doing SOMETHING right! (Although there were a few close calls that I think we, as a group, may want to either self regulate better or have someone kionda step in! It was getting a little dangerous the speeds being hit by some of those guys!

Was fun to try a blast like that in the cove though! Woulda liked to have been full power, especially with Flytime in the boat, but wasn't meant to be. The stall out didn't help the beginning of it,  :-[ Too bad Moo was still suffering from the dirty fuel from Avi. One long hot lap around the lake she cleared up and seemed fine. Wanted to try it again, but by then nothing but triple digit boats were running around! I did toss a pretty horrific Roost on my way out for the day, hope I didn't shower anyone!

And what was up with those F-ing ducks? Talk about a distraction!! I got to the point, very quickly, I was aiming for the lil bastards! Next time I go there I'm taking off the rock grate and try and give new meaning to "roostertail", stupid things!

Yeah, new pic thread! CAn't wait to see what Crewcheif's werkin on!
