What's the scoop

I have a Bassett scoop. I met a guy down at Parker a few weeks ago, and he said I should cut 2-1" holes on the back side. It's to allow air to flow through. I was told that the air going in hits the back, and rushes towards the front causing incoming air to fight against air rushing forward. I was told that this would give me better air flow to the carb. Has anyone done this, heard of this does it work?

The arrestor probably does more to block the air flow than any air flowing back up to the front of the scoop.

Probably need more motor info. Any motor remotely stock I doubt would see any real world benefit that you could feel. You probably would end up having two ugly holes in an otherwise nice scoop and no noticeable gains.

I was told by Greg shoemaker @ gs marine to do the same. He said his son's boat picked up by doing it. Don't remember how much he said it picked up.

I looked into the scoop on my boat and it has two large guarter size holes in the rear corners
