I'm starting at the transom since it seems to be the easiest spot to fill. I got a roll of 1" cloth and using polyester resin. I've got about 4 layers of 1" strips. Then I got some silica thickener to mix with the resin to make a paste to fill the rest.
Any constructive feedback is welcome.
This is the boat we are raffling off at horsepower fest. It's a 78 Bahner. (Build thread coming soon)

After the several layers of cloth were laid down down.....I went in and filled it with a mix of 1/4" chopped glass, polyurethane resin, and silica thickener. Once this cures I'll sand it down then go back with more filler to smooth it out.

Once the filler cured I gave it a rough sanding...I can see the low spots that need to be filled in

Grinded and sanded the top and bottom edges to start the shape of the cap. Now I just need to fill it smooth. I will just use the silica thickener with resin to make a putty like material that's easy to spread and shape before it hardens

Final filling and smoothed. I will hand sand the rest down after this cures.

Are you planning on installing a rub rail?

No, that's the point of a cap job. It eliminates the seam covered up by the rub rail.

I'm not painting the boat myself. Mike and James at Kahos Kolors is painting it. It will have a red, white and blue patriotic paint scheme.

Filled and shaped. Now just need to go fill the little holes and patch some minor blemishes...like the one right on that corner.

I've burned up all my talent. It's good but not perfect. I can keep filling, sanding, and smoothing for days on this, but it's as close as I'll get it for now because we're running out of time. The boat is headed to California in the morning to get new stringers and then paint. 39 days to go until HPF.

Did you reinforce from the inside, or were the strips all applied from the outside of the hull?

The inside was already fiber glassed all the way around from the factory.

Gotcha. I've read a few times where the inside needs to be reinforced due to the grinding/sanding that is needed to smooth the outer layers that are added. I'm wanting to cap my rogers but I wasn't sure how I'd get inside to reinforce it.

Great job...
