Title: bed liner coating instead of gel/paint?

I heard someone say that you could use a bed liner coating (smooth finish obviously) instead of painting or gel coating your hull. What are pros and cons? I was planning to paint my beast this coming winter and actually found a smokin deal, but I may reconsider if there are enough pros to bed liner coatings.

Bed liner coating are generally NOT smooth in finish . I did mine and it's not smooth . The whole idea behind the bed liner coatings is to not have a smooth finish so that whatever is placed in your bed will not move around .

I don't know if i am exactly picking up what you are laying down, but if you are talking about your bilge area i think the liner is a great idea, because of the easy rinse from gas or oil or anything else, and it's strong and looks half ass...i was considering the possibility of doing my bilge on the nordic

I've heard they make a smooth coating used in hot rod type applications such as undercoating. I'm actually thinking of doing the outer hull and deck. Maybe even flooring and bilge too.

I JUST FOUND OUT THAT DUPLICOLOR MAKES A AEROSOL SPRAY ON BED LINER THAT IM GOING TO USE ON MY BILGE AREA.

so if i prep the fiberglass it should hold up pretty well? how many cans did you need to for the bilge area?

Talked to Rhino Lining in Phoenix, they said they sure can. But they have to shoot it during winter time since the heat makes the stuff dry in 7 seconds. He said in the winter time they can make it smooth as glass. I'm going to email some pics to get an estimate. We'll see what they say.

Okay, just got email from Rhino Lining with a rough quote of $2500 to do inside and out. Rough inside, smooth on outside (hull deck and bottom). Very tempting. I'm still leaning towards having PW Tony's dad shoot it with paint though and then getting some blue chrome flames from Brad.
