Title: Black base under motor
Post by: sonny1717 on September 10, 2015, 09:54:38 AM
Guys what does everyone use in the bottom of the floor under the motor that is oil resistant ? Can I buy it at the local parts store ? It's almost like undercoat right ?

I've never painted under a motor. It is generally gel coat. If it's a patch job I believe west marine sells something for that.

I know some people have even used Rhino liner or something similar.

Flow coat, sher-fab in Ontario has it and can mix what ever color you want

Flow coat is what you want bud, looks nicer in the long run. Bilge coat is cool but it has texture to it.

Jordan's Eliminator came out nice. This is what he did (and what Jake did also):

Thanks for the compliments! After glassing the tanks and bilge separator in, the floors and stringers were hit with resin. At that point the stringers were done. The floor was sanded as even as possible with 80 grit per AJ at SherFab's instructions. Then the rest was masked and sprayed. The "flowcoat" is a 1:1 mixture of Prestec 27X1 and gelcoat.

It's from this thread. This some good info about floors in it.

If you ever get an oil leak trying to clean that texture is a pain.

The buy off on that is that stuff is durable as hell. But I get what your saying with the texture being what it is.😎

Flow coat is a better option guys. You can buff it out when it gets dull and IMO looks killer.

Jake is flow coat on the shelf anywhere locally besides sher fab ? That stuff looks bad ass but we are out of time , he's sanding all night tonight and were dropping the motor tomorrow. Then installing the tanks and plumbing +carpet. Trying to make the regatta with his float - that way we can bring twice the coolers to the sand bar !!

Brush on Rust Oleum. I used white. Looks good to me.
