New to this forum, ive been looking around online for any info on rebuilding a boat and figure i would ask around on here, I recently picked up a jet boat for $500, I figured I couldnt really go wrong spending that little amount, well after getting it home i did a bunch of maintenance and it acutally fired up, from what the title says its a 1973 chaparral 19 ft runabout but it looks just like a tahiti ive looked around and couldnt find any info on chaparral making a jet boat like this any info on the boat would be great, it has a berkeley 12jc-a jet in it, a 454, the guy i picked it up from said the owner before him owned a mechanic shop and did alot of work to the engine but he didnt remember what, after finding some dryrot on the floor i decided to replace the floor , then after finding some dryrot on the stringer i decided i better replace that..   :mad:now im finding i may be over my head on this one, anyone got any advice on how to replace a stringer?  anyone think it is actaully worth replacing it and the floor and the seats and the carpet? or would it be better to pick up a different hull and put the jet and engine in there? Use the Search bar for stringer and you should get many threads to look through.  Several members have gottin into projects like this and done OK.  But your ability will determine how much you want to tackle.

It is also not uncommon to find a great hull complete without an engine for sale at a fair price.  So if you feel the mechanical components are worth swapping into another hull, you might find you get a better boat and might be able to sell off some spares to recoup some funding.
