So there are a few spots under the boat where I can grab fibers. how would I go about fixing this?

You are going to want to feather out the hard edge(cracking gel) make your repairs, depending in severity your fillers might be actual re lamination of fiberglass or marglass (fiberglass reinforced bondo) then block smooth and straight, then prime(will show all sins lol)and if it is to your satisfaction finish with gel or paint to suit.

How deep and how big? Some surface stuff I would just use plain ol body filler and featheredge, or you could cut some small strips of fiberglass cloth and build it out with cloth and polyester resin. Lowes carries the 3m stuff, it works well. Build it out with your choice, block sand and rattle can a near-color on there and voila!
Probably chip any loose gel around the damage spots..

Id say maybe a sixteenth to an eighth of an inch past the gel in some of the worse spots, so im assuming the fiberglass filler and ill be good? And should I flip the hull or can this be done with it on the trailer? Also when you say feather the edges what exactly do you mean.

smooth it out and fill sand and primng on your backer and you can do it on the trailer if you dont mind laying on your back sanding

Bondo likes to stick to a rough, jagged surface so don't pre sand. Chip off any loose gel and throw the butter to it.
Featheredge is a thin filler product that bridges the edge of Bondo to your surrounding area of repair. Bondo itself will only sand so thin.

Feather edge is a product but in this case that is not what I was meaning. To feather means to sand the edge of the area to be fixed getting ride of the edge of the damage. Thus feathering out the damage to the good surface. You do this for a couple reasons one to reduce the amount of filler needed and to to get rid of the hard edge so your repair will not crack later on down the road.

Going from memory what you are referring to is actually a polyester filler meant as a top coat for final sanding and blending (not really necessary)
