Is this hull junk?
« on: July 18, 2020, 03:05:54 PM »
68 wieman. Seems like it's seprateing. And I can't get the intake shoe out. Seems like they used some kind of very hard epoxy. I got all the screws out, and Jacked up with it strapped to trailer.

That is the seam of the top cap to the hull. When they make a boat, it is in 2 pieces, the bottom and the top. They place the top piece on and then tab fiberglass strips on the inside. They put the rubrail on the outside to help cover the seam.
Some don’t put a rub rail on and they “cap” the hull. To do it right, you have to grind away some of the glass at the seam and then later fiberglass back in. It is a lot of work, but looks great if done right.

Are you talking about taking the entire intake out, or just the shoe?  Please post some pictures of exactly what you are trying to do.

So thought I'd bring this thread back up. When I first posted I had a kid on the way, now he's 3 and I have a 1 year old. No big projects at the moment. So I may try my hand at fiberglass, and try to fix this. I read through the links and post but hoping maybe someone since then has found a good step by step video that shows products and tools. I probably won't dive into it for awhile so it will give me time to find tools used and materials on sale. So if you guys know of any good videos or links to post/write ups,  preferably without alot off topic b.s. it would be appreciated. Till then ill be searching in the mean time.
