Ok Guy's....I'm puttin' new gas tanks in my Spectra,the old ones were "glassed" in :mad: :banghead: I need to make new bulkheads to install the new tanks correctly. Any help? I bought some 3/4" plywood to make 'em. The questions are....Do I coat the whole thing in "glass" and glass them to the hull or do I just epoxy them to the top and bottom of the hull? Not sure the best (strongest) way to do this. Any help will be greatly appreciated! ;D Tracy

If you're looking for strength (duh) I would make the bulkheads just short of the space they will be installed (say 3/8") and round them up with a sander so they are smooth, this prevents pressure contact in any one place and will save you some headaches later.
Leave them raw wood for the advantage of good adhesion, they will be resined and glassed when you finish up.
Make sure and rough up anywhere glass will be applied and clean it up with MEK or Acetone (lots of ventilation).
Then wedge them in place using cedar shims (they will be removed later) and put a few small sections of resined matt to hold them in place.
Once cured, remove the shims (then measure again ;)) and rough up the new work for good adhesion and get to glassing the entire outer diameter to the hull, making sure to seal all possible ways for water to migrate. Viola! last forever.
Ralph has a thread on here where he did a bulkhead in his project, he did a killer job...But wear a hat LMAO!

Thanx GT,but I'm not sure I understand this part? Could you send me a link on Ralph's dealio? I cant find it and I guess I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed,cuz I'm not gettin' all this......
