Title: New Paint idea? (car)
Post by: pw_Tony on March 31, 2008, 04:58:46 PM
Trying to come up with a new scheme for another family Drag Car. It's a 1970 Dart, with a Blown 440 in it. The car is already red so that's what I have to work with. I got ahold of photoshop finally to play around. The only '70 Dart picture I had was of my Father's current car, and it's lime green lol.

Opinions please, honest ones, and maybe better striping ideas? Thanks

Join me over at www.bigblockdart.com - The coolest website for the A body big block crowd (for those that don't know - Big blocks weren't really offered in the Darts and Dusters (A Bodys), so most over there are racers who have done the swap and race the crap out of them).

There are some big picture galleries over there for you to get ideas from. I'd give you some ideas, but I'm challenged when it comes to that!

Here's my 70 Duster with a 528 in it.

Oooooo Plum crazy duster, very nice! We used to run with this Blue Duster with a scoop likes yours all the time that had a Big block. Can't remember the year of it now though, had pink decals on the scoop?

Here's some other ones I did up, trying to get a race car feel but I SUCK at creative stripes, opinions?

And for Speedy Mopars, here's the first "Car" I've raced on a track

And another one in the stall, you might like the Airbrush on the side lol, both Dusters are my Fathers

I don't like the top one, the next one down is much better. BUT I suck at schemes - That's why my car is un striped - I can't figure out what to do!

I like your dads. What dragway is that?

That's at Barona, used to run Carlsbad when it was open. I don't have half the pictures of his other Mopars. He has a targeted 9 second '70 Roadrunner he's been wanting to finish, just needs some PLexiglass. 14:1 with big roller cam, 0.060 over 440, supposively a low cubic inch sleeper.

I had a '69 Dart with the 340 in it for awhile. Dukes Of Hazard was on TV and I frequently jumped that Dart with never an issue.  :screwy:  Fun, quick little car!

The second one down is starting to grow on me.

Is he still looking for a cam? I have a Crane solid roller in the garage with 50 miles on it - it was too mellow for me so I stepped it up quite a bit, but it should be able to hit the 9's.

No thanks on the cam, just like I bet you do, he has a boo-koo amount of cams, heads, blocks, parts, and part cars lol.

The second picture, I was looking at the newer Pro-stock cars for what they run. But it was a red car so I have to work with it.

Yea, the stroker boat engine was built with spare parts. I had to buy the cam, pistons, and gaskets, but everything else was already there :-)

Now I'm trying to sell off stuff 'cause I need the room. If I ever decide to get serious about boats, Maybe I'll run that cam in something. It's a good cam, just not big enough for my cars.

Red with black always looks good.

I like the look of that pro stocker, that'll look good in red.

You guys know anybody who has been messing with the 5.7 Hemi's yet?

YEAH -- Mother Mopar is expected to introduce a 6.4L with more than 500 HP in the 2010 Challengers.  I think Hot Rod did a Comp cam and exhaust system swap and found somewhere around 75 ponies but don't quote me on that last part.  AND THE BEST PART IS  Chrysler will be offering a Pro Stocker just like the good ol days.  800 lbs lighter, composite hood w/ BIG scoop, drop out cross member, special seats for 6 point harnesses, special drag racing breaks.  Woo - Hoooo!!!

Sorry bout that folks, talking Mopar horsepower makes me really horny.  Don't stress on the paint. Its going on a Dodge, red orange pink green yellow Dodge makes all colors look great.  ;D

I guess I'll re-phrase that..... Do you guys know anyone who has done work on them or does work regularly? I understand they're real powerhouses, kinda shitty the tranny wont stand up to a bunch of power.

If Chrylser actually comes out with a car like that, I'll sign up right away. The new Challengers are frickin 4300lbs, and that is just too heavy for me to make it fast for cheap $$$

Trans unreliability is a thing of the past. If it was a problem at all it was usually due to dumb mechanics not using the proper fluid.  I have 220,000 on my truck and it still hits firm and on time. I have changed the fluid 5x tho.

Mine's due for a fluid change. From what I understand the new Hemi transmission (545RFE) is good in stock form with stock power. When you throw a supercharger or something on there to get you up to 500HP+ supposedly they get ripped to shreds no matter how built up they are. To their credit the only way these guys seem to have been able to tear them up is if they leave overdrive on, from what I've been reading the overdrive unit is the weak link.

I saw a while back Don Garlits had a rail built with one for the retro races. I think it was blown but still only like 600 hp. Just a wild guess but probably no OD.

My best friend owns a little company called DiabloSport. His 300 SRT8 is pumping out 618 HP to the rear wheels. As far as the new challenger - here it is:

That is MUCH lighter looking, something I would be interested in.

Undone, there used to be a Charger rolling around lake havasu with a 6.1. Not sure what all it had done, but it had airbrush on the hood, Supercharged 6.1L, 750hp.

Actually now that I think about it not too long ago, there was an article in Engine Masters Challenger magazine on how to build a 5.7L hemi with some good power

Can't say at the moment - It's under development and there is more left in it.

The new hemi heads are insane. With minor mods they flow 370 + CFM with great low speed charateristics.

Tony, I'm looking for that article. If you find it, send me a link. I'm starting to look seriously into an extra 100HP out of the hemi. It's just not fast enough.

Here's my $.02 paint "real" flames with different shades of red, purple, white, and pink. I think it would make that red pop!!! I wanna do blue real flames on my boat with matching graphics on my Ram 1500.
