Title: painting trailer
Post by: NORDIC454 on August 14, 2008, 05:05:47 PM
not sure if im in the right place, sorry if i am. i need to get me boat off the trailer, to redo the trailer.(bunks, wiring, paint and refinish etc.) the problem is, that with work, i dont have time to make something to remove the boat. and dont have a hoist. does anyone know of anywhere in the Las Vegas area that has a hoist that can take it off and store it ,or block it for that matter, for a week or so. any help would be greatly appreciated. by the way, it's 20 mini-daycruiser. thanks

Drop it in lake mead and i'll watch it for the weekend. Seriously, I had a guy who was going to paint my trailer for $250 and materials, drop me off on friday and pick me up on sunday.

This is going to sound super hokey, but been doing it like this for twenty years...

Find a place you can set the boat down for a while...preferrably near a tree or a phone pole to tie off with, get a floor jack and some large towels and blocks of wood. tie off the rear of the boat with your tow vehicle still attached, undo all the tie downs, take a little weight off the trailer with the floor jack under the boat with some blocks of wood and a fluffy towel, pull the trailer forward and keep moving the floor jack so not to hit the trailer then set it on some tires or if you have them hay bails with towels on them (works bitchen), keep pulling until the boat is of the trailer.

To put it back on, get a Come-a-long and spray the bunks down with soap and water and disconnect the trailer from the tow vehicle and pull it back on, works slicker than owl shit...

We did this with an Advantage 27' Victory (brand new, $67,000) inside the Cow Palace boat show in about 15 min.

for $250 I'd really want my trailer re-painted.  Any suggestions in the SD area?

Here is how I did mine. My Old Man at the helm of the tractor. I first made a cradle and then put it on while I worked on the trailer. Although 250.00 to paint a trailer is good.

I havent had time to do sh@t this summer. I have been so busy working its like pulling teeth to stop work for a few days to go to Seattle for 5 days. and when I get back it will be back to being Mr Slave. I ran up on monday to Sac for an interview and was back late Tuesday/Wednesday at 2:30am.

If we plan it right I think I can camp at the lake for a couple days while you paint!
