Title: Somebody give me some advice. PLEASE.
Post by: 2savage4you on August 25, 2007, 03:36:32 PM
Well i just started to clean out my 454 project boat 1970 Holmes. I found some damage and just wondering can i just fill it in with resin and glass over top of it or should i just scrap this project all together?

It looks like some one has done some glass work on it all ready.  I am begining to wonder if it is even going to be worth it to get it fixed up again, Im really having my doubts.

It also has a fiberglass gas tank :o and needs new guages, motor rebuilt, pump rebuilt, and both cables, so far ;D

Starting to get bummed out, how about some advice Huh.

This has been my experience . In this part of the boat , resin and fiberglass are layed up very thick and if at some point someone decided to clean up the bilge or just didnt know whats goin on . They might have just poured a ton of resin over this area . Resin by itself is very brittle and there you have it . Fiberglass and electrical are two things I dont do . At all.

Since I can't see any cracks on the bottom I'm with beerjet that someone put "something" over the original glass and it just cracked.  That is no biggie, just grind it off and drop some new mat on it if you want.

Thanks Beerjet.

It looks like pure resin as you can see. so i can either poor more on or just leave it alone.

Should i bust it out? and then glass it.

Shit i need a beer to much thinking going on here ;D

Yea I think it's just resin. If fiberglass cracks it's usually not a clean straight cut like that. Best bet is to grind it all the way down and see what the glass looks like underneath it. I've had my fair share of filling rusty trunks with resin just to make it smooth out and just crack later
