Title: stringer wood

I am getting ready to have mine done and just want to know whats the best ;)

When they did my boat I believe they used morning wood ;D

Just kidding...I'm thinking it's some sort of marine grade stuff. As far as what species (i.e. oak, cedar, birch, etc etc) I'm not exactly sure.

I agree, For framing lumber, you need a wood that will hold glue well. Fir works best, but spruce or pine will also work.
Also consider this, a joint that is off by 1/4" glued together with epoxy is stronger than a perfectly fitted joint held together with any type of glue or fastening method. ;)
