bringing shine back??

well i just got back from utah with the new boat the top and back are faded pretty bad any idea on how to bring some shine back to it

If the color is still there, but just oxidized, hit it with a buffer and some fine cut rubbing compound, then follow with polish and wax. If the colors are showing through to the basecoat, polishing will likely make it worse.

Is it paint or gelcoat?

not sure if its paint or gell coat it original from 1973 ?? and it is showing threw to the base coat

Well if its original, its most likely gel-coat , so if you seeing though that then your seeing the fiberglass and resin. and there is nothing left to buff! If it is paint and its a 2 stage process (base color+ clear coat) then the clear would be gone and you would be seeing the the base color under that or the glass if the base is gone as well. Either way it would require re painting or re gel-coating.

i cut mine with a DA and rubbing compound, then used an orbital for polish and wax. it lasted for a while but its back to its original dullness. im gonna try giving it a quick 2-3k wetsand and then cut it this time. hopefully it lasts longer.
