SS Tank Install Questions.
« on: March 17, 2010, 11:02:12 PM »
Ok, So I got these 15 Gallon Imcos home I got from Brad awhile back, started figuring what needed to be done to install the buggers. One of two things needs to happen, either the fuel fills need to be relocated on the tanks, or the fills in the hull need movin'. (They're still in the truck, haven't unloaded a damn thing since I got back from Temple).

So here's my thoughts about it, overthinking things....AGAIN.....probably. The original tanks filler necks are roughly 38" from the rear of the tanks to the center. The Imco's are 56 1/2" same measurement, near the fronts of the tanks in both cases. If I relocate the fill necks on the tanks, they'll be shy a half dozen inches from being in the middle of the tanks. They'll fit physically, but I'm worried fuel is gonna slosh everywhere with the vented fills in the middle with fairly full tanks. I'm also aware I may not even be able to ever get them quite full anyway set up like that, and the sending unit will have to be relocated on the starboard tank as well to do this.

Converse of that is messing up a nearly perfect, save the dock rash everyone knows about, gel coat that Nordie showed me how to make really pop! The Dock rash would be a fairly simple and hard to notice repair where moving the fills on the gunnels would not. Also I need someone Like Nick here to do the welding on the tanks if that's the way I'm gonna go. (Actually, I know a guy, but I know he's nowhere near as good as Nick)

Any opinions?

Modify the tanks, you'll never get the gelcoat patch to match.

Tilt the fill in and put a flip top fuel fill on it and walk away...

I Like it! I like it a LOT! Thanks Omar! Was processing it and then the bell went off, put the starboard on the port, port on starboard, should work just fine with very little tilt.
