1976 Glastron Carlson transom question

So , There i was watching some YouTube videos..
Thinking to myself how cool it would be to get a jet boat.

Damn YouTube..lol
So i got myself into a mess i think?
I bought a 1976 Glastron Carlson 19 foot with a 460 ford and a JE pump.
I bought it pretty cheap for $300 and figured like a lottery ticket either i win or lose.
Figuring i could scavenge some parts maybe if it was a total loss.

For $300 including trailer i can't expect much and i knew this going in.
But if i can fix it enough to play with and use it as a guinea pig as i learn more about boats i can get a better one someday.

My question is the transom...
The floors and stringers are in rough shape , Which i'm sure you guys already guessed lol
But i wondered about the transom?
Being a JE style i think i read some place the hulls are formed for the pump?
Does this mean there is no wood in the transom to rot?
And if there is wood should i be concerned with it's strength or just replace the stringers and floor and roll with it?

Of the ones I've seen, the transom has wood in it. They usually rot out at the exhaust, and next to the pump.

If the stringers are gone, and the floor needs to be rebuilt, and the interior is 40+ years old, maybe grab the 460 and the pump and put it in a better hull.

How are the fuel tanks? if they are fiberglass, they need to go too.

What condition is the 460? Does it run?

Are you in love with that hull? Otherwise, RUN RUN, RUN...

But, I too, have rescued some questionable boats...

Thank you for the advice.
Im not in love with this hull , just would have been nice to fix it.
Since the engine actually runs great and has some upgrades.
Mallory distributor, edelbrock carb and other little stuff.
And has good compression 150+ in all cylinders.
So i can salvage the engine at the very least and move on if needed.

Do most engines fit most pumps with a simple bell housing swap?
Considering i have a complete ford setup could i buy a olds or chevy powered boat with a bad engine and use my stuff?

Buying a turn key boat for $10k just seems like cheating taking the easy way out lol.
So id like to do a little work to it if that makes any sense.

But...i suppose the next boat i get i should increase my budget higher than $300 and at least buy a solid hull.

Oh well at least i learned the hard way cheaply and have some usuable stuff

I have a JE pump in my Challenger actually both of my Challengers have had the JE pump, I actually like the JE in my boat since it's a runabout ski boat and not a high performance huge horse power boat, the outside hand hole has been extremely nice over the years for cleaning out crap and ropes on the fly with no need to pull the boat out of the water. In the Challenger there in no wood in the transom but I do believe that depends on the manufacturer of the hull not so much the pump the JE is a type of insert pump I understand that to mean the intake is glassed into the hull and not easily removed or changed

As far as the Ford mounting to other pumps there should not be an issue there but you will need all the Ford motor mounts. But the drive line or pto shaft should slide into the pump to my knowledge.
