Considering a 19' Daytona
« on: November 15, 2012, 08:05:40 AM »
So I've been thinking lately about my direction with my Rogers. I like the boat. To complete the project I expect another $10 to $15k would do it. For that I could buy a 19' Daytona, move my engine over and maybe a few other things. Take what is in the Daytona and put in the Rogers and sell it for $5 or $6k. The Daytona would have to have the pump pretty much set up for me to buy it. Clean paint job as well.

My Rogers runs to 86mph in 6 seconds with a stock intake. Based on my research having my pump set back is worth about another 10mph. Changing the impeller may increase this as well. I'm running a AA now.

How much more would the Daytona run with my engine? 10mph, 15mph, 20mph?
I feel pretty safe running the Rogers to 100mph, How much faster would the Daytona run before it goes airborne? I know it's a fine line, I would prefer to stay right below the death defying line getting as close as I can  :screwy:

I want one of the quickest boats on the river, not the fastest.

When you look over a Daytona what exactly are you looking for? Good and Bad

Thanks for the opinions guys

dont get me wrong daytonas can be the quickest boat out there but there is alot that comes into play when you start getting into high speeds, people have spent countless hours and thousands of dollars playing with hardwear set ups.i am pretty new to jet boats but i went from a 78 charger v bottom that i had for a year into a 19 gullwing and i have learned alot and have already spent hours upon hours playing with my set up,and it still isnt right.

Chevy 468, strong inside, Procharger 9 psi

Like I said stock intake

Loader, Agressor 9 vane bowl, place diverter (Tim Place is an asswipe - he made me an offer, then screwed me out of a whole $50, hope you enjoyed it asswipe)

I have many years  experience with building boats. I have access to someone who built the same Rogers I have. His was really fast and well put together.

I'm looking for those with the Daytona to pick their brains on their experience.

On a side note nice avatar lupo - sweet azz  >:D

Yep fast boats are expensive and yes this is where I'll spend many more thousands. It costs me $1000 a month to have my boats and a place on the river, it's one of the things I do.

If you do a search on Performance Boats, what's quicker was brought up over on the jet section a few times.

Most people thought 18 gullwing. Some thought a CP tunnel.
But everyone agreed the lighter, the quicker.
Either way, I don't think you could go wrong with a Daytona. Like Lupo said, alot will go into setting it up.

There are some cool Daytonas for sale over there right now.
I love this one...http://www.performanceboats.com/boats-sale/111369-19-eliminator-daytona.html

Good luck.

Thanks - I have looked there a few times, I saw that one. Based on what I've seen so far he's over priced for what it is. I like the look and set up of the Nordic posted here and everywhere, but think if I pull the trigger it will have to be an Eliminator.

There are none now, but a month or so ago I saw a couple that I would consider for $15k that were pretty well set up. Good enough parts to do some engine swapping.

I'll either continue with my Rogers or go Daytona. None of the others interest me.

If you are talking about the white and grey boat, that thing is set up. They raced it on oct at blue water and it ran pretty damn good. That bost would be a perfect candidate for a turn key deal or if you wanted a motor swap.

I saw that one last night on PB. Looks like all you have to do is drop in a motor and go. If I had the cash right now I would consider a road trip. Thanks for the heads up

Hey Rogers, I think any Daytona would be lighter than most semi V's. So you would gain mph
with the weight savings plus the air entrapment making the boat think it's lighter than
it really is, meaning less wetted surface dragging through the river. There have been numerous conversations about
weight = mph, but I'm not that smart.

I don't know how much hp you're running but we are at 8 lbs in a 7.5:1  468 on pump gas
and running 90-95 mph @ 6300 rpm in a medium lay up ( approx. 625 lb. hull ) delta pad with no keel work and a
Mag/Bronze B, I think there is more mph in it with a smaller cut.

There is a wealth of knowledge available in So. Cal. for Daytona hulls and set up.
I believe you could get some excellent advise from these guys, in no particular order  ( so don't be hate'n )

B1 Racing
R&D Marine
GS Marine
MPD ( Jack McClure )

I'm sure any of these guys could get you where you want to be without wasting a lot of money getting there.
Good luck, once you drive a tunnel you'll be hooked !  ;D

Thanks for the info wet

I'm running a strong 468 at 8:1 with 9 lbs through a Procharger. AV gas works best. On suggestion from someone who knows told me I better run a bit of Marvel Mystery Oil if I'm gonna run straight AV gas due to the dryness of the gas. I have a stock intake with AA impeller, 9 vane Agressor bowl, HP steering nozzle, place diverter - 86mph at 5300 rpm. Don't know actual HP, but based on my research before I built the motor and the parts I put into it I'm guessing somewhere around 800 to 900hp. I could be completely wrong, but it doesn't matter this motor runs strong.

Yes I know I'm repeating myself, I forget stuff I just did all the time  :banghead:

I'm gonna hook it up soon after the rain stops and take it to Cyclone for a conversation with Jim Brock. He's close to me. Once I know in detail what I have to spend to make the pump work its best then I'll decide on what's next for me.

Either way I enjoy the project
