Eliminator Sprint questions?
« on: July 25, 2021, 12:40:19 PM »
Been doing some research on the Eliminator Sprints since I picked my '89 up a couple weeks ago and from the little info I found on the net it seems that there were 3 versions of the hull built. A medium layup hull with 2" stringers and standard pump placement, a heavier layup with 2" stringers and a balsa floor and a light layup with 1" stringers and set-back pump. I'm wondering if I'm missing some info cause the Sprint I picked up seems to be a fairly light layup (I'm going to scale it when I get a.chance to confirm) with 2" stringers and the Dominator pump is sef back enough that the cleanout is completely clear of the transom. Info seems pretty sparse on these hulls and I was wondering if anybody has ever run into any set up this way?

Thanks!
Dave

It’s possible the Dominator set back was done later to gain performance by a previous owner.

Here is a project thread on a Sprint. I haven’t completely read the thread, but, I believe he had it running pretty good.

There have been quite a few Sprints on the forum over the years. If you go to the home page and do a search for Eliminator Sprint, they should show up.

I think TrollerDave is correct, I doubt that is factory for '89.  Could you get some pictures of directly in front of the intake (probably under the oil pan)?  What you would be looking for are signs of classwork to fill the hole that remains when the intake is set back.  There may also be an aluminum plate, welded or bolted on to the front of the intake and filled with epoxy.  Also look underneath the boat for signs of cracking.  Anything would be an indication of a modification after the fact.

Hi guys.
That's just it. I looked for all that. I have bare hull all the way to the rear of the bench seat between the stringers and the glasswork is consistent all the way back to the intake with no indication of work done. Same with the bottom. The engine is on the original HM 3 point mounting with the bellhousing mounted to the front of the pump and there's no indication on the stringers that the engine was moved either. That's what I'm scratching my head about. It LOOKS like it would if it had been done as a mod, but no signs that it was......

Custom order from Eliminator maybe?

Have you opened the pump for inspection?  You may find a shop name stamped on the impeller or ride plate step of the shoe.  Is it an actual Dominator intake?  I would really like to see inside the bowl, to see which generation it is.  Dating the pump could also shed some light

Could you get a better picture of the cradle?

Ill get pics tomorrow if it's not raining. The pump was built by George over at ARS Marine back in '11, but I haven't opened it up yet. Plan on doing that this winter (among other things) to inspect/freshen it up, although it looks brand new inside. Very low hours

Have you talked to him?  I was thinking that that's one of his cradles.  Maybe he has more insight into the work that was done.
