What are the top five fastest non tunnel 18' jet hulls does anyone know? And what kind of top speeds can they achieve?

18' Southwind is a proven hull.
Not my number 1 choice, and iam a southwind guy!.
I would say if i wanted to build a go fast VBottom it would be hands down a Rogers. Ive seen many run fast. I think Jordan woods red rogers ran well into the 9's with 900hp.
The other choices would be between Dimarco, miller, hallett, bahner, and cole.

I personally wouldn't try to make a kachina 18 a runner, they have that same problem like the southwind 18s do when you start messing with the bottom.
I would put any gulwing up there with any tunnel, The new placecraft tunnel is starting to get popular. That would be my choice for a new hull. But then again..... the cursader, placecraft, and southwind tunnel are Mod V bottoms :o :sly:

I thought a gulwing was a tunnel. I've always heard that a Bahner was a light fast hull. For some reason I have fear of flipping in a tunnel that isn't there when I'm in a v bottom. Maybe because my step dad flipped a gulwing potato chip when I was younger. But that was at 130 mph. I'm not concerned about reaching those speeds but I think 105/110 mph Is possible. Just don't know if it is in my SW18

A gulwing is like a tunnel, just a bit different. Packs air under to create lift.
I would never take a v bottom over 100, it's just not safe. With today's technology you are less likely to blow over a tunnel. That's why you see any of the boys running 9.0 or faster in a Daytona style boat running a wing in between the sponsoms.

Real sketch anything over 80-90 in a v bottom jet Gullwing pickle forc not so sketch still fast on water.. Everyone thinks a pickle fork is sketch but way more safe like a Gullwing.. Pickles dnt like to turn

Great info guys I think I'll just be happy with my sw18 the wayy it is and live to talk about. I know it will do over 100 with nitrous but ill be leaving the bottle at home.

Yeah Daytona 100+mph readily hitting 89mph without pushing the tune up to the edge let alone squeezing it !!!!

Comp jets run in the mid 90's in the shittiest conditions .....
All v bottoms.....
Try again girls.
There were 2 guys back in the OG Hotboat days that ran Kachinas real fast on spray.
I know at least one of the guys sold his Kachina and went to a gullwing since he felt he had reached its limit and was going to a 500 inch motor and more spray.
Gullwings are v bottoms.
Cp, texas, also made tunnels .
CP's tunnel (from what I've read) was the more of a hazard on shut down than anything.
Bandy I think runs one with some bolt on deals to keep the nose out of the water on shut down.
Guys who run ANY boat successfully, have A LOT of time invested in them.
Usually hull selection is determined by how much experience and knowledge they can get from others to make theirs run RIGHT.
I'll be the first to tell you, I don't know shit from shit when it comes to tunnels, but I would decide how fast you plan on going.
I was told by a few guys that Ultras tunnel was a better platform at higher speeds than the Daytona.

I don't know but they also said that the ultra was a modified Daytona bottom.
Basically, whatever mods you had to do to a Daytona, the ultra already had.
All great info if you were planning on starting with a 100 mph boat.

The two that seem to stand out are Rogers and Bahners. A common thing said about them is it doesn't take a lot of HP to make them fast.
Gullwings seem to be a step up from the standard V bottom, better ride and higher speed potential (or so I've read).
Alot of V bottoms could run fast enough if you spend the money and time. Some just take less to get there.
If you're hitting 89 on motor alone, I'd say you're doing pretty good.

You don't get real specific when you say "fastest hulls", do you mean drag fast or up river with your hair on fire fast?
IMHO, there are so many hulls to choose from that have their good points and bad.
A modified Vee aluminum would be by far be one of the fastest hulls in the water, but quite expensive relatively speaking.
I would say the early '80's Renegade would make the top three. There are very few 18'era though. There flagship was a 19'.

Southwind is a great 18 ski boat. I loved mine.
It's When you start setting the pump back and blueprinting the bottom when you start running into problems.
Most of these boats were layed up to be ski boats not race boats. So most have 1/4 stringers and a lot of hook and rocker built into them. JMO not something I would like to do 90 + with.

Mine has full stringers and a set back pump no hook and handles pretty fricken strong. It even shuts down from top speed straight as an arrow. I was just curious oh how it stood up against other v bottoms.

Gota love it when the truth starts flowing from the Beerjet.
BTW Beerjet, Ultra built two tunnels, one was a Placecraft, the other was a Cheyenne. The CP tunnel was actually a modified Daytona (forks cut off). It was easily "upset" on shutdown because the forks where cut off and the entry they did on the front of the sponsons was to steep.
As far as fastest V hull. Like Beerjet said, It all depends on how much money, time, and knowledge you have to invest. And if you want 100+ from one you better bring a lot of all three.

In no way am i knocking southwind 18's. They did something right, its the most splashed hull in the history of ever :thumbup: :thumbup: :thumbup:.
Rivertards boat has a bunch of time and effort into the set up, not saying they cant be made into quick boats. They just arnt my #1 choice for a go fast boat. JMO
