Title: Full stringers better than quarter stringers??

My body is trying give me a early 70s jet boat 19 foot fixer upper Kona. I rebuilt jet boats in the past I'm a little curious about the quarter stringers . I always had Full Stringer in my boats. I checked this one out and she is pretty solid. But I'm planning to put some horses in the ass end of that boat . will it handle it or ripping it out???

How much horsepower? Don't quote me but I think the general rule was about 500 hp. You could go more and it may handle it just fine, but the risk may be higher.
If the stringers are in good shape, you can also re-enforce them with extra layers of fiberglass.

Was going to switch mine to full stringers but was told.. would turn it into a tug boat .. if under 500hp.. .. so much for good info

Generally, a full stringer hull is lighter than a quarter stringer hull.

I don't know why adding full stringers would make it a tug boat.

500 hp should be in the 70 mph range, if everything else is set up correctly.

I was just at 500 hp with quarter stringers and never had a problem.
71.8 mph was best run on gps. And that was a heavy azz Glen Co 19 footer, no shoe, loader, or ride plate.

The Kona bottom should be way better than that old Glen Co deep vee bottom.

If the entire boat is structurally sound (meaning the stringers, bulkhead and FLOOR) \and you set it up correctly putting some decent HP in it should not be an issue...

However... what are your goals... that bottom is generally not something you want to push really hard (very similar to my setup and its sketchy as hell). Not to mention that is a JE pump... not ideal for someone trying to go fast

It looks to be in good shape and could be cleaned up nicely. Would make a hell of a cruiser or ski boat...
