Post by: NorcalJet on August 17, 2016, 06:58:21 AM: Hey everyone, this is my first post on the forums but I am also on the Facebook page but figure this question would be better suited for forums.

I have been looking for a new bit for awhile now and havnt had much luck. I came across this GT and am going to go and take a look at it later today. The current owner has just finished replacing the floor, foot board and carpet due to a leak in the fuel cell so he replaced everything ehike he was tearing into it. From what I can tell in pictures it looks like a pretty good boat. What I can't figure out it he says this bit has no drain plug. I've never heard of anyour jet boat not having a drain plug. He says its cause it's a light layup boat, but I'm certain that has nothing to do with it. So the only thing I can think of is there was some repair done to the transom and they never put a new plug in? Or what else could it be? Also what is the true definition of a light layup boat. Anything I should stay away from?

Post by: JordanDangerfield on August 17, 2016, 07:09:07 AM: On a jet boat typically the drain plug will be found on the bottom right of the transom adapter. The transom adapter on that boat was molded in there and a new drain plug was never added.

Below is a pic of where it would be if you had a stock transom adapter.

Post by: roost on August 17, 2016, 07:46:04 AM: Look to see if there are drainage holes drilled through the stringers at the transom. If they are not there, put them in so any water on the outside of the stringers can drain to the bilge. You'll need a hole through the transom, but that's just a hole saw away. I'd be doubtful about the hull being a light layup with a floor tank.... doesn't make sense. If it were me, I'd stop them from finishing the repairs, box the stringers in front the engine, put a couple tanks under the gunnels and throw down some carpet. A couple buckets and maybe a bench seat and you're done. You're NOT going to want rear facing seats..... drives people crazy.

Heavy boats are just that heavy. That's very general but you can tell by just flexing the deck. And the weight of the hull will tell you for sure.
Not all transom adapters have drainage holes. Not all boats have transom drainage holes. I've had mine for almost 40 years and all I've had is a bilge pump.
X 2 for boxing the stringers and drilling the holes in them at the back.

A drain plug in a jet boat is not a low-pressure drain like in other boats. I wouldn't even put one in. You really shouldn't get that much water in the boat, unless your dropping skiers all day, or something is wrong.

Get a $20 wet/dry shop vac and one of those piston pump tube style super soaker deals to get the water out.

Everyone I see draining gallons of water are the guys oiling down the launch ramp. And it will give you an excuse to keep your bilge clean.

So I'm saying maybe 400 pounds. All the repairs are already done to the boat but it should be simple enough to pull the seats out of there and do whatever necessary work. I really didn't want a project boat which is why I was after something already done. What does it mean exactly to box the stringers? Do you guys think this boat is worth 5k?

Yup that's my go to, we have a cabin there. Tonight I'm heading up to Don Pedro for a few days, got some week days off.

Yeah it's got full stringers but it's not at light as what the guy had thought. There is a "floor" in between the stringers, but to the outside it's just the hull no floor or sub floor. From what I've read I'd consider it a mid layup.

Yeah mine doesn't have all that. Here's the pic when the previous owner tore it down to redo it

Anyways now it has metal motor mounts and a new floor, foot board, and carpet

I'm in the NorCal area looking for fellow jet boaters to hangout with. I'm 40mins from rollins. usually at Folsom or the river...go to camp far west once in a while as well
