I have the exact same hull except mine is an '84. Great hull for an all purpose jet boat. Very stable ride and gets up and goes with you put decent power to it. Only down is that they are very heavy and the steering at idle is terrible...but the steering is common in many jets. Even though its lacking in lightness its makes up for it in stability.

Just an fyi if your using that diverter, for some reason the diverter arm causes a nasty little splash back over the passengers side transom when slowing down. Another person on here who has the same hull (86carribean) actually lost 3mph when using the diverter, if youre a speed enthusiast its something to consider. I have one on mine and it does slow it down a bit but I like the added control it provides.

I haven't topped my boat out yet this year. I just got the engine rebuilt. Its got a little over 500hp. I'm in the high 60s and I'm confident I can get it to mid 70s once I get my throttle cable adjusted to open the butterflies all the way.

The other guy on here w the same boat has 540 hp bbc B impeller and loader grate. Hes pulling 72mph w full tanks and 2 people in it.

As for the diverter I'm not sure how to fix it. I think its the angle the diverter control arm drags in the water. If you slow down very slowly it usually doesn't splash back.

I don't see anything that could even remotely be hanging in the water that would slow you down.
At least not from this angle.

I have an 86 Hardin Marine Caribbean also, but it is my first boat, so I can't compare it to any others. In my opinion though, it feels to handle well and runs smooth. I'll follow this thread, as I'm interested in any further input !

I have a 89 Caribbean that I have owned for 5 years now. It's been a great boat. Ditto that it's a little on the heavy side but solid, no one stress crack.

Riverrat817,

Do you have a loader on yours? If so which one? Also does your diverter splash the back of your boat when you slow down?

Yes to the loader question. It's the SE loader intake from Hardin Marine. I have never experienced the splash back issue.

How much of a difference did the loader make?

Not sure, the loader was on it when I bought it. I am actually thinking of trying the SS loader if I keep don't make any changes to the engine or the XS loader if I make a few engine mods.

Yeah that would be interesting to know how much of a difference it makes. How much hp are you running and what's your top speed?

I actually bought the boat complete less motor so never had an A impeller. Pump has an inducer, stuffer and the bottom of the boat has been worked and speed coated. I'm using a Clay Smith cam 615/300
