Title: Hull Clean Up

Ok, what does everyone use to clean all the oil, gas and crud out of their hulls prior to glassing, painting, and carpeting?

carb cleaner or acetone

Thanks Ralph,  I guess I'll buy a 5 gal can of Acetone.  Maybe find a steam cleaner I can rent, too.

Palmolive Dish soap breaks Just about everything down in a bilge .

I jacked my boat as high as i could in the bow and gave it a good dishsoap bath, i mean it was sudsy ;D Then i let it all dry out while leaving it jacked up for overnight , and then wiped it down with Acetone really well..

Ralph and Omar are correct, i used both and it turned out Bitchen ;)

I never tried acetone since my bilge is coated with the duplicolor roll-on bed liner .Actetone breaks everything else I've ever used it on down though for sure .  ;)

Make sure you dont have any "wet" acetone when you start shooting the steam, if the acetone hits any painted surface you are going to get unwanted results!

I actually just posted a thread on a bilge cleaner I just tried yesterday and loved it. It ate thru oil and grease and crud without messing anything up. Best I have used so far. Let me know if you need a bottle there like $12.95

Where did you get it?  I cleaned a lot of the crud out but when I pull the old floor I know there will be more.  Before I do any glass work, I've got to make sure there is no grease or oil.

Will a bottle do the whole hull, inside?
