Twin turbo 460 in quarter stringer boat?
« on: August 23, 2009, 09:31:22 AM »
I was thinking the other day since i have a pair of t70 turbos laying around and i was going to spice up the motor a little this winter. Would say around 600-700hp be too much for a quarter stringer boat? Its a 78 southwind, has new floor in it along with floor supports.

About the only mod I would make for some warm and fuzzies would be the addition of a pump brace....

The quarter stringer deal does not really freak me out too much, the pump brace will make things a little more rigid and possibly save some undo stress on the hull bottom at the front of the intake...Just my .02c   :sly:

I'll either be running a 6-700hp turbo motor or build a big stroker. Might be leaning towards the stroker since i am more familiar with the tuning aspects of a n/a motor. And now that i know my boat can handle it has got me thinking  ;D

we have a 78 southwind and built about 550 hp bbf and cracked the hole three times one chine up from the stringers both sides. I talked to a couple people as to and the first thing they asked was did I add more hp. Then blamed it on that. When I fixed it the last time I added two layers to the hole bottom of the floor. It hasn't cracked and it has been about 8 years. even with the added weight  the boat goes 76 mph 550 hp bbf.
