Title: Leaky RIB, anybody know the trick?
Post by: Trukinbear on July 26, 2013, 10:03:54 AM
Arrr, Low water means we're pullin our old RIB out to use, but she's going flat pretty quickly - but obviously not quickly enough for the location of the leak(s) to be obvious.

Does anybody know the trick to finding all the leaks?

Try soapy water in a spray bottle and look for bubbles

Yah, I started there, with Ivory liquid and water - should I use a different soap?

I use dawn dish soap for checking gas pipes and what not. Dawn seems to bubble a lot more than other stuff I tried

Go to Wally World and get a large bottle of kids bubbles, dilute with water.  That's what we use to locate leaks in automotive a/c systems when pressurized with nitrogen.

The ultimate leak checking bubbles there is..

Take a spray bottle with the "stream" function and put Dawn dish washing soap to about 1/3 of the bottle, then put another 1/3 of the bottle of glycerin, top it off with some soft water, spring water works in a pinch.

Put it in the refrigerator and use it cold, make sure it is shaken very well before you put it in the fridge.

I have had this stuff make 2' in diameter bubbles....

If it were mine, I would shoot a little R22 refrigerant in it and leak check it with an ultrasonic leak detector.... Found an air mattress leak in about 30 seconds.  8)

I use that for checking for refrigerant leaks. And its funny you mention Dawn soap that is the best bubble maker. Just dawn and water is all I use.
