In all the years I have been boating I have never been asked to even see the registration for the boat. And trust me...I've been pulled over more than once . I would even worry about it.

1974 and older did not have to HIN stamped on the hull (it wasnt required ) . If it's newer , it might be on a tag on the side of the stringer .

All hulls have a secret HID stamped somewhere on them. Boat manufacturers cannot tell anyone where they are at. The reason for it being there is if the boat gets stolen only the Police or Coast Guard knows where to look I guess. I don't know about older hulls or race hulls but my 78 has it.

If the boat has been painted, there is a good chance that the rear HIN has been covered or removed.

Now you need to determine if it was removed by someone who didn't realize what they were doing or was it done because they wanted to hide something.

What about the max persons/weight tag?  Should I just not worry about that too?  I think I will stamp the HIN number onto a piece of stainless and rivet that on.  It is a 1982 Condor.  If that helps at all.  Thanks for the help.

I dont think it's goin to help . It's probably goin to have to made by some official organization like the DMV to really be valid .

My Hallett 1972 , original gel . No HIN . (pre 74) AZ decidec a DMV sticker with the numbers on it is enough and so did CA DMV . The sticker matches my paper work so that how I'm gonna leave it . What I'm saying is how ever you got it registered , leave or ask if they can send you a tag . If you put one on there , it'll just look stolen IMO .

He's another detective trick . Get a bright (brighter the better) flash light and flash it around on the inside of the hull abouts where the numbers should be . If they were painted over , then they should shine through to the outside of the hull .

Not all hull !!!! My doesn't and it a 1999 hull and also three other boat that were made too.  I asked my buddy why and he said" that's a racing hull and no warranty on it"  just another loop hole.
