Finally the project is done after a year and a half…. Some of you have been PMing me about the progress so I figured it’s time to post the results. After building the first hull out my mold, we decided to go all the way and build a new mold. Joel at Genesis Boats in Hemet CA took on the project and has been working on it ever since. We built a plug out of the existing mold and capped the boat to fix the mating area between the deck and the bottom. Then his crew spent the next several weeks block sanding the sides and adding glass to fill in the sides of the boat and make it nice and flat. It’s amazing the beating that molds take over the years and how they flex and distort. Once Joel had the boat as perfect as possible, he re-gelled the boat white and then wet sanded and buffed it back to original showroom shine.
The bottom of the boat was very good to begin with thanks to the work that Greg Shoemaker and Dave Batista had put into it several years back. I debated it for a while, and then decided that if I had come this far, I might as well go all the way. I contacted Jeff Bennett who flipped the boat and spent 4 days blueprinting the bottom. When he was done, I knew it would be as perfect as it would ever get. Jeff did a great job and I would highly recommend him for any bottom work, he is truly a top notch guy.

Joel built a new mold off the boat and spent 4 weeks laminating and caging the mold. There is more steel in this thing than the Titanic but it wont distort or flex which is what I wanted. We built a custom trailer that holds the mold with removable legs so that I can transport them home and keep them stored inside and out of the sun when not in use. After 16 months and a lot of effort, it was finished and ready for the first boat.

While Joel was working on the mold, I was doing everything I could do to come up with a trailer that fit the low pro look of the boat. I quickly found that most of the old school trailer builders were no longer in business or could no longer build the trailer I was looking for. I guess most of the industry went to 30+ foot boats and forgot how to build them the way Ellis used to back in the day. I ended up deciding to go with Enduro Trailers in Havasu and took the boat to Havasu to spend a week with them and fab up the first trailer. We used shortened leaf springs to suck the wheels and tires together and a set of custom 59” x 10” stainless fenders by Wolfe Ind on a panel mount. With custom reverse mount (super deep) 14x7 rims with a 3” offset and 22560R14 BFG’s, I got the look I wanted and a trailer that fit perfectly with tig welded beams and precision welds. You might notice that the rear beam is removed for easy hardware changes. Can’t wait to see the finished product as I had to leave before it was painted. Gary and JR at Enduro are really good to work with and I’m very happy with the finished product.

The first boat is being rigged as a river boat with wood in the transom and a false floor. Joel did a great job on the gel and the lamination is top notch. This hull came in at 600 pounds and is strong enough for my lard ass to walk across the middle of the deck with no problem. The hull cap fit perfect due to the mold being built from a capped hull and the boat is a very straight piece. The customer picked the colors and graphics and I think it came out very well. I was a little skeptical at first, but I think it came out sweet. Give me an honest opinion, you won’t hurt my feelings….. LOL

My brother Tim and I went to see the first boat today and he was impressed. That spoke volumes to me because he can be pretty damn picky so I was glad he gave it his approval. The next boat goes in the mold this week, Can’t wait to see a few of these on the water!!!!! Thanks for lookin……….. RiverDad

WOW Jason you guys did a great job :thumbup: the color scheme top notch,came in at a good weight, its going to look SICK on that trailer. Straight as an arrow and the bottom work done already, very good job Jason cant wait to see it in person.

99 out of 100. Don't think I care for the purple, but maybe it is better in person. The construction is tits! I hope you sell a bunch of 'em. Good Luck!

Thanks for the compliments guys. Kinda rolled the bones with the blue on the orange. For some reason it looks purple in the pics but in reality its electric blue fade. It really pops on the orange. The customer wanted the blue in the hull because the dash and the transom were orange and all the hardware will be blue. Should look really good. I hope you guys get a chance to see it person, looks really good.
The bare hull with flow coated engine bay and stringers is $9200 (a little better SCJB deal can be had). For a complete boat less power its around 23-24k. Drop in a mill from another boat and it's a turn key rod all custom one off for under 30k.
This boat is available thru Joe at JP Marine in Lakeside CA. He will sell it in any stage of completion but I don't know his price. If anybody wants and I can get his number for them. RD

IMHO blue would be MUCH better. I hope to see it on the water in person one day. Props for all of you guys putting this project together. It was a big job, but well worth doing.

We tried to keep the old school low profile look with panel mounted stainless shortened fenders and shortened leaf springs, low pro tires and deep rims. The rear cross member is removed like a v-drive trailer for easy hardware changes and we added LED's. Stiill need to grind a few welds and add some stainless bezels, but I think it came out pretty damn nice. Thanks for lookin!! RD

The orange and blue boat is just about done. It's at JP Marine in Lakeside and is getting set up with a mild river motor. I should have some pics soon. The white one is for sale and will be at the Parker race on the trailer. Thanks for the compliments! RD

I have the only original mold of the gullwing and it is a 18foot .not a 19'.
My boat the hull is a 500 pound total weight.
Anyone out there who knows the the real value will always appreciate
a product made out of tge the Original mold.

There it's something to be said about the mold this boat came from.
I think the mold ended up at CP.
If it was good enough for Bill Scotten to want it, it should be good enough to be called "Original"
Further more, the Wicked mold has bad Ju Ju all over it if you ask me.
But that's just MY opinion.

rebelde, it is apparent that you need to spend some more time reading many of the threads in SCJB to get a feel for the attitude in this joint.
Most of us don't appreciate newbies that start off by bashing another persons work (4 out of your first 5 posts comment on the knock off mold). If you took the time to actually read the whole thread you would know that Jason (riverdad) never claimed to be making an original but trying to improve on an already good design. Besides that he also noted that molds do take a beating over time.
Now, if you want to try and start over, you need to start your own thread with information on the mold you have (history, improvements, pics...), and lots of pictures of your past work. As I'm sure you know, owning the mold and being able to craft a quality hull is two different things.

If what you say is even remotely true.... Why has this hull not set the world on fire? Having seen a Rouse in person, the workmanship was outstanding and would have been proud to own one...

Like has already been stated. If you don't have anything nice to say...... Do your research and you will find that the mold this hull came out of had tremendous amounts of work done to it prior to any new hulls being laid up. The hulls are beautiful in person and they perform rather well.
EDIT: Arbuckle, just realized you weren't the one bashing. If I took your post the wrong way I apologize.

I just saw this and sad I missed it. I wish I caught this jackass back in January when he came on here and posted this crap.
This same jackass did the same shit on a thread on Facebook around the same time. He got RUINED by some highly respected people in the boating world. His business practices are poor just like the demonstrated in this thread. Personally, I would NEVER do business with a guy of this stature.....even if he had the 'original'. I'd rather do business with someone who respects the industry and clientele.

hahaaaaaa.... Just saw this thread...lol No harm no foul guys, anybody that knows ANYTHING about the lineage of the gullwing knows very well that nothing being produced today is "The Original"......lol
And if it was, I would be as straight as a wet noodle.....lol I had a great time building what I did, but now the risk is no longer worth the fun. Gonna be pretty tough to sell new "Legal" hulls with EPA approved engines and EPA approved fuel tanks with filtration canisters and plastic fuel fills...... I had my fun but this is not the business to be just starting out in.... Seems the Feds have decided that the performance boat industry is public enemy #1 and the root cause of global warming.... :screwy:

Thanks Squirrel, not to late yet, but the loop holes are closing fast.... This fuel tank issue is going to be a major problem for small boat (hot rod type) manufactures.... Most of them no longer issue an MSO and have to be registered as a home built hull, for obvious liability reasons..
Eventually the reputable builders will realize that the risk and environmental fees and fines are not worth the profit of building these types of boats. Dune buggy guys will know what I am talking about, they all hit this wall years back as well. Sucks, after 25 years of wanting to build killer hot rods, I finally get the opportunity and the entire industry gets slammed with rules and regulations that make it near impossible to do legally. There will always be somebody willing to sell a hull or two without any numbers or written proof that they built them, just not me.....
Don't give up yet, but don't drag your feet to long!!! By the way, just for history sake, the Wicked mold was originally called a Fiber Tech, but I'm not sure where in the line it came. It is completely different than a Youngblood (Condor/CP/Texas Perf/Scorpion/ etc etc). Youngblood was the original.......

Also what irks me about the wickeds is I heard a story that they were pats mold and he lost it in a kniving divorce. The ex wife was then having them laid up as diamond or something else. Basically didnt know what she was doing. I dont know where the guy in this thread comes from. He could just be some dope shes screwing thatweek and thinks he just scored a sugar momma deal. I even saw her post up on a dating site advertising she had a gullwing company...pic of her standing next to a yellow wickid gw.

I happened to be the first response on his facebook suicide... and I pretty much said the same thing I stated above. I'd guess it took about 5-6 hours for it to reach over 500 posts and the thread got sh!t canned by the moderator.
If the guy does ever get a hull built, he might as well use it as a planter, because I don't think anybody willing to rig it will have anything to do with it.

My Girlfriend's ( that's how a good story always starts) husband died 4 years ago. Previously he has driven to California and bout a 2011 rouse Gullwing hull. He was building the boat when he passed away. Now she has a half finished boat and does not know what is it worth. Does any body have an idea, what the hull is worth, It is spotless, Any body have any ideas, suggests,

I just checked, he hasn’t logged on in over a year. Somebody else might see this that has his number.
Do you know how far into the build it is? Is there interior, motor jet pump? Was it stored outside? I assume it has a trailer? Depending on the condition and how complete it is, maybe 10-15K. What state are you in?

My boat was the 11TH one out of the 19’ Rouse mold. I got mine in December 2012. Jason made 10 true Rouse boats then sold the mold to Bill Scotten, I bought the first one that Bill built (via Joel at Fiberglass Concepts) using the Rouse mold.
