Ok. So I'm working on the hondo today getting stuff messured for the new interior design since I changed my mind on the one I built last week and I look at my saddle tanks. I notice the straps holding them down have bolts that run down into my hull bottom. And sure as Sh!t they go all the way through the hull. I really can't believe this is the best way the previous owner should have mounted them. My question is this, should I patch over the bolts and leave " well enough " alone, since I don't want to leave it exactly how it is. Or should I pull the tanks and fiber the holes and mount them differently?

how else will you mount them?

the second you touch those things theyre gonna leak. if it aint broke dont "fix" it.

That's the way most saddletanks are bolted/mounted. If you're taking the tanks out to clean them, just make sure to use a dab of silicone on the back of the countersunk bolt to make sure they're sealed. If the countersunk hole in the boat is still in good shape you might not need any silicone at all.

Thanks guys. I wasnt sure if thats how they were supposed to be mounted. I was going to fab up mount to go off of the lip. Im always happy to leave well enough alone. 8)

That's how all the round ones are mounted I've seen. Pulled Pickles twice now, and just dunked the bolts in sillycone before reinstalling. I suppose theres a better way, but seemed to be nothing on them when I pulled them the first time. :screwy:

There was an article in HotBoat that showed TRG Todd making and installing brackets to mount saddle tanks.
It looked pretty trick. I'll see if I can find the issue. It was from July 2006.

Maybe this will work

Interesting article.
That technique can be used to mount many different components.
Thanks

I was thinking about glassing allum mounts that have tapped holes for everything that mounts to my stringers. I hate bolting things to them.
