I was just about ready to mount my motor in my project boat and when I drilled through the stringers the wood came out looking pretty soft. I don't think it is safe to mount the motor as it is. I thought about bracing it up with some aluminum but that will be a lot of work and money to still have a shotty stringer and it could still need to be replaced. How much is it to have someone replace stringers and is it even worth it for the type of hull? (1982 Condor Semi V) I like the shape of the hull but I dont care what I have really. I just want it to float this summer. You can see the boat in the project section as 82 Condor. Any help would be appriciated.

I think stringer repair is about $1000, I could be wrong, I know Ralph had his done @ B&K Boat Repair in Long Beach, you should give them a call. If you like the hull, and the rest of the boat is decent, I'd spend the money on the stringers, at least then you'll KNOW that they're good. Good luck whatever you decide.

define 'soft'
the stringers in my liberty comes out almost cork like soft when i drill the stringers....but they arent rotten.
if it comes out very dark and mulch like, then you might have some rot.

It does come out kinda dark and mulch like.
If I decide to redo the stringers how can I tell the rest of the hull is ok? I am just wondering at what point do I decide to redo the whole boat or look for something else. I wish I knew more about this stuff. I am learning though. Can I give myself negative karma? I am bummed out.

other then the mulch like crap coming out when you drill it....is there any other signs of rot? hows the glass over the stringer? do you see any cracks forming along where the bottom of the stringers and the hull meet?
i havent looked at your project thread yet (i will now) to see what youre dealing with.

get some pics of the transom wood ....is it rotted?
also, the area on the right looks like the glass has collapsed into the stringer where the mount(s) used to be
and the big question is on the left....there appears to be a gap in the stringer? ??? i do notice that the stringers go from a primer grey to a wood color....are they all one piece? or did someone turn this 1/4 stringer boat into a full stringer boat at some time?
its hard to tell from the one pic....so take some more detailed pics so we know where ya stand and can give you better advice to move forward with this boat or not.
