I have a 1977 Brendella Pickle Tunnel. It sits pretty low in the water. When I got the boat it had a ridiculous looking stainless splash guard over the tansom that looked like Elvis's collar. I would like to make one that's a little better looking... any suggestions?

this guy is down in havasu and specializes in stuff like marine windshields and splash guards....especially on the vintage boats. he knows his stuff.

I'm working on something that will be a little different for my daytona. Its going to be out of polished stainless. Instead of being inside the transom...it will be on the outside. I'm hoping to get the stainless on my lunch today.

This is a Finney splash guard. Nice stuff. If they don't have it already, they'll look at your boat and pattern one for ya. Includes windsheilds, skylights, whatever.

I E-Mailed them twice AND Called and left a message twice, No reply, Did all this in about a 3 week period thinking maybe a business vacation or problem. No reply, Figured they went out of business, had to much business or for some reason did not want my business?? I don't know :screwy:.. The last attempt was about a month ago, Until I hear of a good reason I'll try elsewhere... Roy

What did the splash guard set you back? $$$? Looks great and i want one also for mine, would solve the problem of having to bump the gas when the wake get's to back of the boat. And how long did it take to get it?

That one came on the boat, but when I contacted Roger last spring for a windsheild for my old Beisemeyer it was pretty reasonable. Around $300 if I remember right.

Anyone ever make there own out of acrylic.. I've seen those plastic strip benders or you can make your own.. I'm starting to think Lil' Squirt needs one.. It would only be 2 to 2 1/2 inches high and would have to be cut to clear the headers.. I'm thinking a dark smoke color... Any one try one or have any pictures of something....

There was a thread a while back on another site. Seems like secret to bending it was to put it in an oven....can't remember if it was lexan or plexiglass. You been boating at all? I may be at pineview this coming weekend for a buddys bachelor party...hopefully I'll have my boat back together by then.

Acrylic is the last thing you want to make it out of....hell, you can barely drill a hole in that stuff without shattering the whole piece.
If you're gonna use plastic, use lexan. I made my first one out of lexan....I didn't heat it, just pulled it into place with clamps. Got it close, then marked it and cut it. I bent it enought to stick it in the boat, then started in the center at the back and worked my way out...clamping/fastening. It turned out like shit because I'm a hack, but I could have done a nice job if I cared. I suppose the oven trick would work, but you have to be careful with it...you can't get it too hot or it will bubble, and it cools off quick. I've tried various approaches with a heat gun, but they haven't added up to much. It bends decently at room temperature, and usually won't break.
I fell on it a couple times and drug the engine over it a couple times while pulling the motor and it finally gave up the ghost and cracked in a couple spots. Normally I wouldn't care b/c my boat is a heap, but this was even a little much for me.
I whipped up a new one today out of aluminum...cuz it's what I had in the garage. I didn't have a piece long enough to do the whole thing, so I did it in two pieces. I got out my bead roller and rolled a step in the end of one sheet so it would be a nice lap joint, then stuck it together with rivits....and swirl-polished it so it looks like elvis's collar.
At least when I drag the motor over it next time it'll bend, not break, and I can beat it back into shape...LOL.

Hey Kreg how was pineview.. Me and mama have only been out for about 1 hour this year. That was out at Willard for the annual shakedown... The kids are wanting to go but here it is middle of june and onle 58 degrees out and it freakin raining side.. Gotta love Utah..

Oh, and for the molding around the edge...I used some door edge molding available at any autoparts store. is the stuff you put on the edge of car doors so you don't chip 'em when you open them into stuff. It's available in black and chrome.
