hi every one i have a 1979 jet boat made by a company called the boat shop. when i got it it had been sitting under a tree for a few years and the guy i got it from took the seats out and dint plug the holes so after a few years of rain some water got underneath the floor i was wondering what the best place to drill hole to drain it would be i was thinking towards the back of the boat on both sides of the motor so the water would drain out then from there out of the plug in back. any ideas would be great and any info on this boat would be great as well i cant find any thing on it the hull numbers are mwb its called a boat shop on the reg thanks kyle

If there aren't any existing holes for water to flow from front to rear it probably has foam under the floor. Meaning, you need to remove the floor and remove the now saturated and rotting foam. :banghead:

no it will flow, but you will never get rid of all the water and depending how much is there . thats a lot of weight.

it wont drain out over time if thats what you're thinking. not to mention once water gets under there it can penetrate into the floor and stringers. Most likely the floor is soft and rotten by now. Tap around on the floor with a hammer and you'll hear the difference between soft wood and good wood. If it is soft your best plan is to tear out the floor, remove the foam, and glass in a new piece of plywood. dont forget to drill a drainhole. its pretty easy and very common. If you can work a saw, and a paintbrush for the resin/glass you can do it yourself. Theres a lot of threads with information on how to do it.
mine, it probably sat for at least 5 years... and it was STILL wet inside even with the drain hole:

anything is replaceable. ^-^ stringers are more involved and require properly supporting the boat so when they're removed the hull doesnt lose shape and then you glass in new stringers and create a hook in the bottom of the hull.

cool i would like to re store the whole boat at some point i just want to make sure that it runs well and the pump works good before i dump a lot of time and cash in to it i got it in a trade for a 5.0 mustang that got t-boned and haven't got to take it yet but that awesome to know that all the damage that was done by the last owner can be fixed eventually i would like to change the color of the boat to blue and the seats to white but that's a ways away as seeing as i may have to pull the floor up. if there a little water under the floor is that ok or should it be completely dry with no water at all

dry on the inside, wet on the outside. not to mention if you go to a california lake or thru the inspection station on the way to parker/havasu and they see *ANY* water, you'll be scrubbing the inside of your boat in front of the quagga inspector and be quarantined for a few days from any lake.

any idea how mutch it would cost to have a shop replace the flooring worst case scenareo if the stringers and such is bad and is there a shop that you can recomend thats closeish to me i live in the santa rosa/sanoma county area of ca i have to many projects atm and no time to pull the boat apart that much i went thru and had to drill new holes for the seat mounts the wood was all good except the front two seat mounting holes wich were alittle soft but other than that the floor is solid and dosnt feel that bad

if you do it yourself....it will make you fell better on the water....cuz you know! and 2 pay someone 2 do it .....expect 2 pay big bucks$$$$ :thumbup:

I paid 1000 for the Foam removal , fiberglass the stringers and a new floor ..... i would have done myself but was working 55 hr work weeks at the time ...

cool what was the name of the shop that you used and were was it located. also i got some new pics of the boat all the pics i had of the boat previously got erased when my memory card went corrupt [attach=1]

keep in mind all the water in the first 2 pics was under there from idk how long ago because iv had the boat for almost a year and it has always been sitting under a carport i took out at least 50 pounds of saturated foam and the foam should of only weighed less then 5 pounds
