Padded floor?

Ha! While all my neighbors laughed, I did it anyway and I'm DARN'D glad I did. That's right I padded the floor, between the newly laminated floorboard and the carpet I installed sheets of 1" foam-board. Such a low profile boat, and I'm not only gravitational challenged, but have glass knees - find myself crawling around the boat - boy do I love this foam. Anyone else have padded floors, or heard of them. Or am I just crazy?

I also designed the seats to be removed together, and under that base is carpeted/padded - just enough room to lay down, maybe take a nap.

while its not something *I* would ever do to my boat, i guess it works for you. my boat carpet is plenty padded and happy for me to roll around on.

I'm sure years from now some new owner is going to tear into it to fix the 'soft' floor, and wonder WTF.

Ah, so your floor IS padded! I didn't see any padded marine carpet (didn't look high-end though) and all the normal carpet padding looked like it would just soak up water, and rot. I'm sure there was something made more for my application than a $14 sheet of environmentally friendly, water proof, mold, mildew, and insect repellent sheet of foam, but IDK. I tested the stuff by parking the truck on it, walking on it, and generally just treating a sample like hell for a few weeks, and the small amount of compression evident was well within my tolerances. It appeared that any roll-up type carpet pad would leave most of my carpet unglued to the hull - the rigid foam board is glued to the hull, then the carpet to it. I had searched all the forums here and couldn't find anything about padding my floor, so I took the plunge.

no its not padded i have only 20oz marine carpet over the floor.

Must not have tender knees, I've got 24oz and it felt like crawling on concrete to my knees. Sorry if I misunderstood.

I used marine foam the time before just recently...It comes in a few thicknesses. I still have it on hatch/scoop as well over new tank. Real durable stuff and water safe as thick as 1/2" and stronger/more comfortable than 3" regular foam. Lays nice with spray or trowel glue. Usually in white but seeing it more in a dark gray/black now. I made my floor this past off season eliminating some floor and went just carpet but the marine foam under the carpet was way cool.
