I was wondering if any one has built or has an engine cover for a 460 motor they would be willing to sell.
-
If some has but built one can they send me some pictures of it for some ideas
-
I made my cover years back and after one season I changed the underside to carpet and diamond.

That looks bitchin I'm kickin around ideas to ether do one like that one that just covers the motor and leaving the sides open. How hard was yours to make

Engine hatch or doghouse?
I'm workin on finding a pic of a bud of mines engine cover that lifts up, then hinges over the transom of the boat and rests on the swim step. Coolest thing I ever seen! Opens up the whole engine! I think it's a Nordic boat. I'll find it!! ;)

A dog house is what I had before...The full hatch is great to hide more stuff. Simple to make depending on hull style. I followed curve from side to side as well front to rear. I made the scoop out of a t-shirt stretched over wood then fiber glassed...kinda like how custom speaker boxes are made. I made a custom radiator shroud for my 56 this way...

That would be awesome man thanks a lot that would be awesome. Yeah I'm thinking about doing something like that
-
The full hatch would look better if my seating was like yours but I have a bench across the back so I think the dog house would look better and I have an engine block ski tow
-
Here it is. Took some diggin' LOL!

Oh, any engine cover I ever do (including the one on the twin jet) is gonna be done this way! ;)
I e-mailed him as to what hinges he used exactly, but if memory serves me correctly, they are '68 Nova hood hinges then early 90's cable operated hood latches front and rear hooked to a lever at the drivers seat.

Not a problem! Thank you for showing up! That's what we're here for. Ideas spawn ideas and I've gotten great ones from here, and I may have helped spawn a couple others. I know for a fact many other members have done just that.
Now, as far as the cover, I PERSONALLY would build it with a replaceable upholstered insert, kinda bathtub style (Not completely upholstered as my buds is), as far as the upholstery goes, not exactly like the pic, with a cutout for the ski tow, blower, whatever else you might have sticking out of there. OR, look for an old ski tow the either mounts through the transom, or an old Sleek one that mounts on top of the transom. Easy to mount and reinforce one! ;)

I wouldn't have an issue with a transom mount ski tow but I ripped my dads off his boat skiing last year so if u have an to super reinforce a transom mount I would totally just do the hatch

Had to be another issue there.
Brad, the host of this site, has towed me MANY times with a transom mounted ski tow on his ex-wifes boat that he sold..........a fact I'm not proud of...... :sly:.......but am..... :screwy:
I have towed many with Moo's and Pickle's transom mounted ski tows. The most famous was "Stan". He chooses to remain nameless because his Chevy was towed TWICE by my Ford in one weekend......I even squirted him with the roost, knocked him off the bow and into the engine compartment, and ruined his camera on one occasion........ Nate errrr "Stan" got even and ruined my phone a year or so later.......
Guys on this site are so cool! :screwy:
Ray
But nothing wrong with transom mounted ski tows!

Awesome that makes me feel better because I wasn't looking forward to spending 250 on a block ski tow when I can spend 50 on a transom mount ... But as far as functionality what do u guys prefer doghouse or a hatch
-
I wish I wasn't always hauling kids around in there so I can leave the engine open

Ummm where to bikini clad women lay out?
Dumbest question I ever heard!

Thru bolt to a piece of aluminum on the inside...I did this to my swim steps. Use the plate as a giant washer. 1/4" thick should be fine. If you look close on my trans you can see mine. My wiring and blower cover the inner ones.

I bet I could put a hurting on a 40 yr old transome mount ski tow. I know I would be very afraid to use the one on my Spectra. I would feel terrible if I tore up someones boat.
@ My Mom - dang you do nice work.
