Title: Engine hatch gas struts
Post by: 93_ultra on May 07, 2014, 12:38:19 PM: I need some gas struts for my engine hatch but don't know how strong I need them. Its a big hatch. Anyone know what strength?

I know Eddie at Martinez marine has some at the shop in corona. Not sure the price. My brother in law spent like 45/50 bucks for his.

Post by: ka0tyk on May 07, 2014, 03:33:29 PM: you need to measure how much force is needed to push the hatch up at their mounting point and then divide by 2... then add a few lbs for good measure in case the hatch foam gets wet.

Post by: Your Mom on May 07, 2014, 05:38:57 PM: I had 50lbs first and if a wake rolled by it would shut... I have 80lbs on now and are a bit more needed but shuts fine. The reason was the placement of them. Wanted them as far back as possible for the ease of coolers/stuff ect. Bought mine on ebay for like 20 each or less. You dont need anything fancy like the word marine in them if its river use.
