Title: Fiberglass or wood?
Post by: Deadend on March 24, 2012, 10:27:53 PM
Was wondering if building all my seats out of glass would be wise or should I use wood or both.. I want them as light as I can make them but want them easy to cover too...
What do you guys think?

Just buy a used set for fiber....look on performance as well. see them up for sale all the time.

I would but, I want to build this one in because when I got the boat the guy put in a wrap-a-round seat.. And it's really user friendly and gives up a lot of space.. Only thing is he used 1 1/8" cdx and cloth..

I remade my interior a few years ago with 1/2 ply using fiber on areas needed for strength. Then water sealed the wood. The girlfriend sewed it for me....I even made a bitchn hatch.

That's really nice looking.. Super clean.. I'm not that lucky have to pay someone to stitch it up.. All I'm really good at is paint... What is the best ply wood to use? Cdx or bdx single face??

I used regular 1/2 ply from home d. Just make sure you fiber some areas and seal it all.

Sorry.. Dont mean to hijack the thread, but where/what is the engine hatch lock/catch you are using. I just made a hatch, and am looking for a nice clean way to lock it.

Thanks.

You could go to the junk yard and get a complete tail gate assembly or if you want something like mine....I bought it on ebay, its a SS hatch latch. I had to modify the locking arm and dremeled out the spot in the hatch for it then shaped a thin piece of SS as a beauty cover. The lock is located in between the speakers and you can see the arm showing through on the top left in front of ski pole.
