Title: Flag mounts?
Post by: jfs.welding.fab on March 07, 2017, 08:01:10 AM
Has anyone mounted a flag in the transom area?  Trying to figure something out without drilling holes.  Anyone have pics?

Do you have an engine cover or an open motor with a ski bar?

Ive been trying to come up with something for the Shockwave but the engine is covered. I made a bad ass pole for my buddys pontoon that quick disconnects and he flys a big ass jolly roger and an old glory. I put American flags on everything just like you do lol. Just haven't figured out anything yet without drilling holes into my hull.

Right on, never a bad thing flying the colors man, loud and proud. I have a buddy that mounted a bracket to the back of his hull, but not sure if you want to drill holes in it you know? You could always make a bracket off the back of the motor or bell housing area, and drill a hole in the engine hatch, and make a plug that is removable for when you transport the boat on the trailer. Hard to explain in words but have some ideas in my head on how to do it lol

So I thought the same thing, putting something in the engine bay and a hole in the hatch but then I thought about it, if I slide the pole into the hole and into the bracket / holder, I cant secure it with like a locking bolt or a pin without having the hatch open, and in order to open the hatch with it in place, the hole in the hatch would have to be pretty big, not sure if you get what im saying. Would probably have to be a long "slot" rather than a hole so it can open with the pole in place.

BOOM, Ive got it lol, I could drill a small hole in the engine hatch, make a bracket like you said on the bell housing, but have the bracket and the bottom of the pole be threaded, just screw that bitch in !

There you go partner, perfect idea, you can use a rigid coupling on the bottom bracket, and use a 3/4" rigid conduit for the pole or if you wanted to use something lighter, you could always thread it, I'm a sparky so that's why I am thinking electrical parts to use haha, good luck man and hope it works out, update with pics when you do it man, would like to see how it comes out 👊🏻👍🏻

Would you happen to already have a hole for your ski pole? That way your not drilling a new one. Just a thought

No, I have a transom mounted ski hook. This is why I have not done anything yet, I just can bring myself to put holes in my boat just yet lol

ya after a few Corona"s and killer " bong hits, I came up with a crazy idea of using an actual matching fuel fill with cap installed into the engine cover. The end of the filler neck would be threaded so like shocker said screw that bitch in " lol"  if you really wanted to make it stripper pole tough" you could go straight  through the filler neck and mount it to the bell housing with a fabricated mount like yours. Just a crazy idea, just sharing my thoughts"
