I was wondering if on a boat with exposed stringers running from front to back if it was ok to cover them with marine grade ply?
I have owned boats before but they have always had a solid floor design, and I am looking at a boat now that is exposed. Just curious because I like the solid floor better. let me know any pros and cons.

pros u would have a full floor cons more weight

just as fast ass ford said....there really isnt any con's to doing it if you have the time and money to do it.
Your boat will be heavier but you will gain more flat floor space.
I imagine if you do it right, you will gain some rigidness to the boat which can be good or bad. I heard that some boats perform better with flex....so its a toss up.
What are you using this boat for? recreational family outtings? or drag racing your buddies down the river?

The exposed stingers make it nice to attach seats and other things securely with through bolts. Having a floor you will have to do some glassing and screwing. Nice for a flat carpeted floor though.

The boat will be for family recreation, with a mild 454, I like speed but I like reliability more. Being dragged down stream by the current without a running motor isnt my idea of fun.
Any ideas on the best way to install the flooring...

Just baught a Sanger, has some floor boards in it like you described. They're padded and covered w/ vinel, vynle, vinle?, whatever, and they lift out. I can send pic if ya need one. I'm takin 'em out cuz i like to see the floor, especialy when it's in good shape, one of the first things i look at on a boat, says alot about the condition/quality of the ship. Prolly make some lay in mats for mine

What would be the best thickness of ply to use (resin covered) for a subfloor?
And, best way to install/anchor to the stringers?

just put a sub-floor in my liberty today, we took 3/4 plywood resined and put 3 peices of 2x4 underneith it to keep it from flexing when you stood on it. put the carpet in and had beat it in, its so tight i wont be using any anchors to hold it down

since the seats sit on top of the stringers, by putting in a solid floor it would only put the seats 3/4" higher then they would be without the floor.

i think if you used some aluminum angle,something like a rail kit then you could bolt it down to the angle instead of the top of the stringer. maybe angle on both sides of the stringer instead of one and a flat plate.

Stainless bolts thru the stringers to hold the rails and also the floor to the rails?

So I measured a few times and cut some of the base off of the seats, put them in the boat imagining 3/4" flooring and didnt like the way it was sitting. So Tomorrow I will cut down the rest of the base and switch to Ralphs pretty subfloor idea.
So I am going to have to cut down all the base and then build it back up for support. A little more work then anticipated but o' well!
I will take a few pics and switch to the "Procrastination Boat Project" thread!
