Title: Issues with interior shop
Post by: jonnyboy92 on June 18, 2013, 09:11:01 PM
Hey new to the site but has been browsing for a while. I have a 92 advantage open bow.  I dropped the boat off at a-1 marine in Fullerton to have a complete interior make over.  The last week of April.  Was told 4-5 weeks. We are now in the 3rd week of June and it's still not done.  Ever week I'm being told, next week, and so on

Anyone else ever have any issues with them?  With the money I'm dropping I was hoping for better service

Have you visited it to see how far along they are?

I found.a Mexican with a crappy shop behind a gas station that took 3 days to redo my back seat with materials that I provided and he charged me $45.

Find a guy that speaks less English, results will improve...bring Corona.

I went there, he was VERY slow but he did make my deadline. My interior came out great, no complaints at all. I gave him a deadline and he made it by 1 week. I would stop by once a week and nothing was getting done, but all the sudden BAM it got done in 4 days, very strange. He put a new floor in my boat, well unrelated to him I took my boat to orange county boat services for glass work on the bottom and they had to cut my brand new floor, well I was extremely disappointed, he used very cheap wood with knots and it was not even marine wood! So I will not be taking my boat back there for anything. I don't mean to scare you but my interior did come out perfect and is holding up great!

thats disappointing to hear.  they were my choice when i finally got the time to have my interior done.  this is the 2nd time ive heard that they are taking longer than expected in like the last month.  when i talked to him on the phone to get quotes he said he could have my interior done in less than a week.  something about having 8 guys working in his shop and they crank out a ton of boats.  my only deal is that i dont like their cookie cutter "modern styling" that all of their boats have these days.

i think im going to look elsewhere after reading your post/frustration.

I expected it would take a while considering when I brought it to him in April, being its the beginning of the season and all. But it shouldn't take this long.  I have talked to him at least once a week since the last week of may and each week there is an excuse.  Originally I was not having a new floor put in but rot was found so it needs to be done, what ever, but it's taken almost 8 weeks to tell me that?

I have heard they do good work with reasonable pricing and was even recommended to them by a coworker but after my experience im getting left with a bad taste.  Loosing out on one trip this weekend and now possible another next weekend.  I'm going down there tomorrow to light a fire under his ass.

Looks good and my experience has been when it comes to boats that it always takes longer than they say.

Yes I am happy the way it came out.. A cpl little things I have to pick up, he lost a hinge for the Bimini top, he also owes me a cpl cup holders for the bow and a gas shock ill pick up on Wednesday... Plus i now get to rewire my speakers and batteries on the perko switch But over all it's well done. , it was a complete interior rebuild, all new wood, for everything and new floor as well.

Here is a before and after
