Hey guys, I have an 18' jet boat with the cocktail style seating and was wanting to change to a bucket front, bench rear set up. I pulled everything out last season to start the work but after getting hurt at work, I haven't been able to put any time into the project and don't know if I'll ever be at 100% again so I'm thinking of taking it to a shop to have it done.

I was wondering if any of you guys had any experience or ideas as to how I can make the seats sit lower than stock. I'm about 6'3" and feel somewhat like a gorilla with the stock seat height. If I took the cushion off and sat on the seat box, the height was much more natural looking. I'm going to start looking around at shops and wanted to see if anyone on here had any ideas I could forward to the interior guys or what. One idea I had was to contour the bottom of the seat to the bottom of the boat and then level it with the foam. I know there would be less padding on the left side of the seat due to the contour but figure it would be negligible. Has anyone seen anything like this done before?

im 6'2 and i was never comfortable in my 18 footer. i had to shimmy to get under the deck and the angle of the gas pedal my shin was about 1/2" away from the edge of the dash. always hunched over. my seat was stuck directly to the floor straight across from the stringer.
i went with a bigger boat...

It all deoends...If your boat us a 3/4 or full stringer you don't have any options. But if it's a 1/4 stringer you could fab something up.

Sorry, forgot to add that, it's just a 1/4 stringer so I definitely have the room to make changes. I wish I could get a bigger boat but it's just not in the cards right now. I have 4 projects that are on hold indefinitely so another boat would not go over very well with the wife lol
My other idea was to just have normal seats and boxes made and have two seat cushions made; one with a single layer of firm foam and one with the typical thick/plush foam. I'm a Porsche mechanic so I'm already used to extra firm seats. Just wanted to see if anyone else has remedied this problem.

Use a 1x2 for the box to rest on the floor then attach seat to that. Most boxes are 1x4. I added a foot rest to keep my knees bent but in your case your almost flat on the floor already. This is only if you want to have your legs under dash btw.

Just had my interior redone. Eddie at Martinez marine, kicked my front seats back 3 inches, made the world of a difference.
I'm 6'2" and know how you feel all scrunched up.

Unfortunately the seats are not salvageable, the driver's side fell apart upon removal and the passenger's was what started this project. If he is handy, I have the passenger side that could be disassembled and transferred to new wood, sort of a blueprint but I know that's probably not what your buddy's looking for.
