So I got a new teleflex rack system frum tom and put it in everything went grate tel I got to the steering wheel. Wtf there is no key way on my steering wheel and my old wheel will fit over the threds but not the shaft I can notch it out I guess. I don't think the bezel will fit if I do that! I don't know I need help! I'm going to post some pic in a little thanks guys

the guy i git it frum had 3 outlets on the block 1 to the haeder T and 2 o/b dump frum block 1 bilge pump and 1 right out of the pump ??? :screwy: he was old as hell (93) he sold it cuz he had a hard time steering it.

i think i might be missing something? so i drilled and taped a hole in the shaft 1/4 20 then drilled a small hole right next to it and put a pin to hold everything together i hope it works. i hate to O0 rig stuff.

I think you need to make sure your rack is under the helm, other wies steering will be reversed. I think thats how it goes, under the rack. Quick check before you head out to the water. You wouldnt be the first to have it backwards, I think three or four of us have done it including myself.

You are going about this WRONG! It appears you are switching from a Mercury Marine rack&pinion. That unit used a tapered square shaft. You Teleflex should be a tapered shaft(or is that one a straight round shaft I see?) with keyway. All you need to properly connect your steering wheel is the correct adapter(the tapered aluminum piece you show on the helm in pic 2). They are available at most any performance marine outlet. This page at Rex Marine should give you an idea of what you need. Steering adapters (http://www.rexmar.com/page91.html)
I've mentioned this before, but these are the "extras" that no one ever seems to consider when pricing out steering changeovers.

I can't verify this since the Blue one isn't here. Can tell you it makes sense, but I know for a fact both boats the steering cable exits left but can't be sure on which side the blue one steers by (JC pump). The moo does steer by the right side of the pump, (JE pump).

that would make sence! the new one has a round tapered shaft and the old one is square! the bad thing is i need it now so its back to O0 riging it. i want to float that thing tomarrow. ill be calling tom on tuesday thanks for all your help fellas!!

I wish I had seen this post earlier. You should NOT take the boat out rigged that way. Too much depends on the steering to take that chance. Lives depend on it. I hope the holes you drilled have not compromised the integrity of the steering shaft.
You might just call Rex Marine for that part. Pretty much guarantee it will be in stock. They should also be able to tell you if there is a matching bezel available for that helm.

im not taken it out you are right it is to much of a chance! i dont think the holes will be a big deal but i will tig them up and then put the shaft on the lathe and give it a spin to see if it square. you know how it is wen you want to hit the water! if i had some aluminum i would just make one.thanks

got it all back together and it is smoooth i had to check to see if it was doing anything!! i hope i got it right if i turn the wheel to the right the nozzle turns to the right. ill get some pics up tomarrow
