Title: Protecting new interior?
Post by: iloveitloud on July 04, 2010, 12:06:16 PM: Getting my newly re-covered interior back this week, And I was wondering if anything can be done to protect it from future sun damage? Does ArmorALL do anything, or just more damage than good? Also, can I just put the same sunscreen made for people people right on the seats and sundeck? Seems like some SPF 50 whould work just as well on vinyl as it does on skin. Boat is stored inside, so that is not an issue, but it will soak up a lot of sun during those long days on the river. Any ideas, or do I just need to re-do the seats evey 25 years?

Don't use armour-all... absolute crap, it will actually dry out the marine vinyl. Also, don't use coppertone... it's for skin. I use a leather/vinyl cleaner after my boating. As for during the 120 degree days at Lake Havasu, I just keep em wiped down occasionally. I find if I fuss over them too much, you break down the stitching and end up stretching or abrading the vinyl.

The reality is, even if you use products which "block" UV's direct sunlight, the sun's UV rays will eventually shorten the life span of "anything".

that is what happend to mine. i used toilte bowl cleaner with bleatch. the gell kind. it worked awesome.
