This is this weekends project....

This is the interior out of Ralph's liberty. The material is in good shape, just a little dirty. The wood is completely rotted out.
I will be carefully removing the material and making patterns from what wood is left.....then making 2 whole new wood frames (one for myself, one for ralph) and staple the material back on. I'll let ya guys know how it goes. God I hate fiberglass. >:(
-
I'm doing the exact same project on a Southwind. Good but dirty upholstory and rotten wood. Good luck.
-
I've got the interior out of our Liberty and the wood looks pretty good. Maybe when can work a deal?
-
i look at this interior, then, i look at the fiberglass seats and i just cant get away from the O.G looks of it.

You got that right . I went the fiberglass seat route because I am very lazy and kept my interior minimal . Nothing looks better than a full interior though , thats fo sho !

I got it all torn down....was gunna head to the home depot to pick up some lumber, but then skip and i got to jibber jabberin on the telie and now they are closed.
as you can see, the wood is demolished.....the foam and vinyl are in great shape. I assumed the backs of the seat buckets were compiled of several small pices of plywood to get the curve....but its one big fiberglass panel formed to a radius. I will probably re-use those since they are in decent shape. just replace all the other wood. there is no fiberglass in this setup other then that...everything is blocked and nailed or screwed together with L brackets. the wood appears to not be treated either.
i will go the same route to rebuilt it with screws/nails, but coat all pieces with resin before assembly....then after assembly, cover all joints with a couple of layers of cloth. this frame will probably outlive the boat when im done with it >:D
I also got some cool ideas/surprises to add onto this setup....stay tuned.

Way to get busy Brad. Go to Home Depot or Walmart/Target and get these sponges called Magic Erasers by Mr. Clean. These things will take the white off rice.

HAHAHA....you found one! I told kyle to find one for me, but he never got back to me...found a few on ebay as well.
anyways....heres some small progress on the seats...it was very hard to get the patterns traced and figured out because everytime i picked up a piece of wood or seperated it from another piece, it just fell apart.
the hard part is done....now i just mirror the patterns for the other side then start glassin

Damn Brad, that's the spittin image of my interior. I'm hoping to do the same as you but am gonna have to wait till everything is in there to see if I can squeeze in a back seat or if I just have to bite the bullet and go with a couple of buckets..
Keep it up, you're inspiring all of us......john
-
this is coming along quite well....i dont have any updated pics just yet....worked on it some last night.
as promised, its not done today, but should be done in the next day or 2.

do you expedite every project you do? Considering how well crazy 8's turned out, I'd like to see what you cuold do if you slowed down a bit.

yeah yeah yeah ::) ive been laggin :-\
i actually kicked this project in its butt last night....i pulled the seats and crap out of my liberty and started to do a light mock up of ralphs interior in my boat to make sure all the lines are right. I will be laying down glass and bracketing it together tonight. hopefully getting the vinyl on it and done by the end of the weekend.
-
thanx for the update, ;)
-
finally made some progress with his seats today....didnt get much done last week after the whole gas (http://www.socaljetboats.com/index.php?topic=3715.0) incident.
I had to coat some more pieces with resin, so while it was drying i spent 2 hours pulling the 100's of staples out one by one trying not to rip the vinyl. :banghead:

I pretty much have the front seats done, now its just the back part that kinda wraps around the engine (aka doghouse)
Here is the jig i made to make the doghouse....used some buckets of bolts to weigh it down to keep it from warping
the aftermath of the old stuff that im still ripping through to piece the new stuff together

Looks good Brad. I can relate to the staple thing. FYI, when your putting it back together, don't shoot yourself in the thumbnail with the stapler or nailer. It hurts. ;) Just lookin' out for ya'.

-
progress report?
-
on the neighbor or the interior? ;D
interior is on season #2...turned out pretty good for a ralph/brad home job.
as far as the neighbor...i dont live there anymore...neither does he. my cousin kyle still lives ther and has that garage...doesnt get any complaints from the new tennants.
i never had another issue with the guy....he avoided me like the plague....his wife/girlfriend/whatever would make it a point to look the other way when walking by. i think they knew how dicked they were for makin up bullshit to the leasing company that i was running a full service marine shop out of my garage >:(

assholes!
