plexiglass splash panel?
« on: October 05, 2007, 01:06:17 PM »
So i have seen some jet boats out there that utilize some sort of splash panel behind the motor. I dont want to sound dumb, but is there a particular name for that? Is it just something that you would have to make? Can you buy it? I have an 87 Rogers and am considering adding that piece. Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

Since nobody has posted yet (being a race weekend).

I have been told there is a shop in Orange Co  ??? that has patterns for splash guards and windshields for many different hulls.

Next week I'll check with Skip at Precision Marine to see if he still has the name of the shop.

Not a very good reply but... There's a plastic business in Santee (a neighboring town of the town I live in), I think it's called RidOut Plastics, they can make those splash guards, a friend of mine with a Gull Wing had a qoute from them, I think it was around $350  :o , he didn't have one made (yet).

Try a local plastic distributer/shop.

Look up the number for 'Wayne/ Earl' in Orange county. They made the splash gaurds for Roger back in the day, maybe they still have the patterns. If not, get ahold Roger Finney in AZ, Finney plastics or something like that. He made them too. He should be racing this weekend though, he runs a jet...still.

If your transom inner surface is 90* to your bottom (no compound curves) you can easily make one out of lexan for under 50 bucks  Tom

I called over and talked to Mark, he said they would need the boat to verify pattern and can make them in a many colors.

They do windshields and rear splash guards

Hope this helps

On my old k boat I made one out of a piece of stainless. I used to work by a sheet metal fab shop, i went over there a did a dumpster dive. then walked it inside and paid them 10 bucks to run it through a roller(i guess thats whats it's called) gave it a little curve, polished her up. the one draw back it was a little sharp. so i went to checker and bought some "mexi-chrome" door protector and topped her off with that.

Hopefully someone smarter than me can put a pic  up 4 ya. It's basicly something(plexi or whatever) that extrudes upward giving the backside of the boat more  "freeboard there" so when your sittin you don't have to worry about every wave goin over the back of your boat. Or when you stop.
