Need to know if they are the same and the potential differences? The big thing i need to kno is if the y pipe block off plate is the same for both of them cuz im going to convert the exhaust over to thru hull on my 79 spectra...so any info on this would be helpful thanks!!

well i took a look at it and called stern drive engineering and found out it is most likely a 3 bolt so all i have to do is remove the y pipe and cap it with that plate right?

Yes sir...you can also remove the exhaust bellows on the outdrive if you so desire, it won't serve any purpose anymore. You will want to use some below the waterline silicone on the mating surface, some of them use an O ring, but I believe the later ones, can't remember...

Use stainless allen bolts or reuse the factory bolts, make sure they don't bottom out, also use lock washers and some blue Loctite, you don't want those bitches backing out!

aight sounds good hey have you ever tired using those harmin marine y pipe plugs? i was thinkin bout it but they r little expensive id rather just cut my own piece of plate and call it good prolly just gunna cut a 1/4 piece of stainless to cap it and drill three holes in it. Im gunna see if i can do it w/o having to pull the motor....also wut kind of exhaust hose did ya use preferably rubber for my application...

Ever try cutting a 1/4"piece of stainless?  The transom assembly is made of aluminum, stainless would bo overkill IMO..Doing it W/O removing the engine is not worth the effort, you can have the engine out in under an hour. Just move it forward 2'...

Use wire reinforced marine exhaust hose, I normally use aluminum or stainless tube with small sections of hose at each end to make the span between the outlets of the risers and the tips, it's just better and more reliable.
