Hi Guys

When i get my new miotor built and put in i plan on converting to Center risers and through hull exhause. I bought a set of mercruiser center riser manifolds last night and I am now trying to figure out how to plumb them.

My current setup is the stock mercruiser 228 Log setup.

My question is can i just buy a typical "4" port marine thermostat housing and hook this up to these stock "dry-joint" manifolds?

If so does anyone have a diagram?

Any help anyone can provide would be great.

I have been doing research and i think i have come up to one of two solutions

From the research i have done it looks like i ultimately have two options, one is to run "cold manifolds" the other is for "warm manifolds".

Here are some pictures with the cooling paths,

Im leaning towards going with the "cold" set-up. any reasons that i shouldnt? Any other suggestions you want to make?

Also, it sounds like you have a few parts lying around, i am searching for the stuff to do my "Thru-hull" conversion. It looks like i will need 4 90* elbows, some 4" rubber and steel tubing and of course tips. Do you have anything lying around you might be interested in selling?

you need to make sure you have a "block off plate" which blocks flow from the manifold to the riser... reason being is that you'll want to suck cold water in from outside (or from the pump) go thru the exhaust manifolds to pre-heat.  then go into the block.  then out of the block you want to go to the riser and then out the back of the exhaust.  the block off plate seperates the manifold from the riser.  the stock mercruiser manifolds have water passages that link them together.

It appears that if i do the "cold manifold" option i will need the free flow gaskets. Otherwise ill have to get the block off plates.
