Took boat out today started overheating so shut it down and drifted got a tow back to winser ramp .? is does bravo 1 have a empleller in the outdrive or do you only have the water pump on the motor ,did a # on the boots on the risors to the Y pipe .Why would it not suck water for coolling sytem ,It worked good last weekend :banghead: ??? :(

A stock Bravo has two water pumps, there is no water pump in the drive however, that would be an Alpha (mucho smaller)...
If you look at the front of the engine there is an automotive type water pump on the engine, pretend that one is not there :sly:
Now look at the belt driven one on the opposite side of the alternator (depending on what model Bravo), there is a belt driven pump that has a rubber water pump impeller that really should be replaced annually. It is a relatively simple job to replace, but cannot be done in the water without some experience and know-how. The water pump repair kit should consist of a new impeller and some barely adequate gaskets, it should take about an hour for the first timer, about 15 minutes if you have done a few hundred... ;D
We always keep spares in stern drive boats because it takes very little for them to fail....
If you smoked the exhaust bellows, you will need to pull the risers and replace the burnt flapper valves as well, unless this has thru hull exhaust, then they may or may not have any flappers..Also, make sure you find ALL the pieces of the impeller and the flappers...There will be impeller parts in the water pump on the engine and also in the t-stat housing
